When BMW reports global sales, it bundles the 7 and the 8. This makes it difficult to find out how every model works, although we can certainly assume that the majority of the volume is for the 7 Series. For the results of the first quarter of 2025 in the USA, the two large luxury models are listed separately so that we can see how the powerful fell.
In the January March interval, the programs of the 8 series fell by a whopping 32.4%, with BMW only selling 990 cars. Mind you, that is still more than the XM and Z4 together. However, a three-digit number in addition to the 8 series is a tough reality. The 8er has a weak annual, not that 2024 was better. The annual deliveries in the USA decreased by 7.1% compared to 2023 last year and fell to 5,345 vehicles.

It will not be long before the second generation 8 series is retired. The gradual death has already started since the M8 coupé was removed from the US configurator some time ago. The production of all three M8 versions (F91, F92, F93) is said to end at October this year. The last examples of the regular models (G14, G15, G16) were built in April 2026.
What’s next? Well, nothing, at least not in the foreseeable future. Sources near Munich claim that even if a third 8 series is planned, it will not be launched until 2029. Only the four-door Gran CoupĂ© could survive of the three body styles. It is unclear whether it stays on the Clar platform or becomes a new class purely electrical.
In the meantime, you expect the sales of the current 8 series to decrease when BMW is retiring. Although it did not do justice to the hype of its E31 predecessor, it will be a sad day on which the last 8 are rolling off the assembly line. This applies in particular if you like the cars from the old guard in front of the oversized screen shit.
