BMW IX’s turnover fell by 25% in 2024

2024 was a good year for the EV portfolio of the BMW Group. The automotive conglomerate sold 426,536 BMWs, minis and rolls royces without an incinerated engine, which has an increase of 13.5% compared to the previous year. Purely electric vehicles had a market share of 17.4% with the total delivery. However, there was a model for which the demand compared to 2023 worsened.

Yes, we’re talking about the IX. BMW only moved 38,365 units of the large electrical SUV, a decline by 24.8% compared to 2023. It is difficult to determine the reasons why sales have dropped so abruptly, but we can make some formed assumptions. The competition has never been so strong in the EV segment, especially when we only talk about large SUVs.

One could argue that the IX felt stale. There are not much to be on the market for three years, but consider how many large electric SUVs have been launched during this time. Perhaps some buyers deliberately stopped when they were purchased and waited for BMW to publish the IX achieved. The LCI was premiered at the end of January, with the first programs planned for the second quarter of 2025.

While styling has not changed so much, there are major improvements under the skin. With up to 701 kilometers (435 miles) in the WLTP cycle, the IX now has the longest range among all EV models of the BMW group. However, it is only a temporary title because the new class IX3 will continue as soon as it debut in early September.

As BMWblog Previously reported, the IX could be a one-and-done matter. It is unlikely that BMW will develop a second generation. Instead, we heard that it intends to replace the polarizing EV with IX5. It is rumored that the next generation X5 (G65) will receive zero emission treatment while staying on the Clar platform. BMW also works to give the X6 (G66) and X7 (G67) purely electrical derivatives.

The G65 will allegedly go into production in August 2026. According to sources near Munich, the IX will only retire in June 2028. This would mean that the IX5 and the IX will coexist peacefully for about two years.
