BMW M cars that were classified by depreciation: best and worst resale

Not all BMW M cars organize the same. With fresh data from Iseecars, we break which high-performance models have their value and which traps like a rock. Nobody treats a car with meaning as an investment. But if you have to throw your money into a depreciated asset, you can have as good fun while you are there. At least BMW hopes that if you go into the dealer, if you consider a new vehicle. The funniest examples are probably at the top of the line -up – the praised models of the BMW M series. Pull onto data Iseecars In July 2025 we looked at how every new BMW M vehicle devalues. And finally you check which the best and worst – financially seen.

BMW M2

The BMW M2 from 27.2% in the first three years. After five years, the car lost an average of 40.6% of its value. The remarkably low depreciation of the car is to be expected in view of its good critical reception and its broad fan base. We would be ready to bet that the manual versions have a better value in the long term, but the data does not set them off.

BMW M3

The M3 loses 24.4% of its value within three years after the lot. Fast lead to five years and the high-performance sedan has lost 54.2% of its value. As a long-time grail of the BMW M series series, we are not too surprised to see festivals here. That remains half of its original MSRP after five years is an impressive performance.

BMW M4

Buying a new M4 -Cabrio? Your car loses 32% of its value in the first three years. In five years, the M4 will lose a little more than half of 50.1% of its value. If you find that surprisingly, take a look at the numbers on the hardtop. New BMW M4 Coupé models lose 24.7 percent of their value within three years, and in five years the car will lose 44.1% of its value.

BMW M5

After three years of property, a new BMW M5 loses 41.7% of its value – a whopping $ 49,782. In another two years, this number climbs to 60%or 71,707. The depreciation alone is more than the original MSRP of a new BMW M2! We are curious whether the data are a mix of early G90 sales and F90 sales or are simply dependent on F90 prices. In both cases, the M5 is deported much worse than models with a lower level. Which should be a big surprise for anyone.

BMW M8

Like the M5, the sky -high MSRP of the BMW M8 leads to some really amazing characters. Three years after buying a new purchase, the M8 Gran Coupé will lose 41.5% – or $ 58,150. In five years, the car will lose $ 83,475 or 59.6% of the original RRP of the car. Cabrio models make a little better. They lose 38.6% of their value in the first three years and 54.5% in the first five years. After all, we have the BMW M8 Coupé. It works best and loses 38.4% of its value in the first three years. After five years, the residual value has reduced 51.7%, which is considerably better than the other two body styles.

BMW X3 M

One of the coolest SUVs ever is one of the better to keep value. The X3 m loses 33.2% of its value in the first three years. After five years, the Super SUV will have lost 52% of its value. It’s not quite as good as the M3, but it’s damn tight. Such a shame that the SUV does not return for the next generation.

BMW X4 M

Although the BMW X4 M is mechanically identical, the BMW X4 M loses a little more. It circles to a more polarizing silhouette. The first three years of life have written down the X4 m by 34.3%. After five years, this number grows to 53.3%. Like the X3 M, the last model year for the BMW X4 M in 2025 and there is no replacement in sight.

BMW X5 M

The mighty X5 m will lose 37.5% of its value in three years. After five years, the SUV lost 56.3% of its value. This is not terrible if you consider the six -digit price of the car and almost 620 hp. The defiant physics has never been financially more profitable.

BMW X6 M

Decided not After the precedent defined by the X4 m, the BMW X6 M is slightly better than its traditional counterpart, the X5 m, but only in the short term, where it sees 37.2% depreciation. After five years, the X6 M loses only a smaller value of 56.5%. Both terms are probably as close as possible because potential buyers make no difference, since both monsters, which are driven by the S68 engine, are driven a lot of cash.

BMW XM

The BMW XM takes the crown when it comes to pure numbers. After three years, the value lasts shockingly well, only 44.6%when it was new. However, this corresponds to a value of over 71,000 US dollars, which is a ridiculous number. The five -year -old rest is even more ridiculous, which will be 61.1% lower than the original MSRP of the car. This represents a decline in value of 98,075 US dollars. This is more than half of the cars on this list, for which the retail trade was originally sold and maybe best illustrated how frightening the BMW XM is.

The winners and losers

According to the data, the BMW M3 will be written off by all vehicles of the BMW M series in the first three years. The loss below a quarter of its value (24.4%) is impressive for any Vehicle, in particular a luxury/performance sedan. Of course, it is not the most unpredictable result, since the M3 has been a main support of the brand for decades – and a polarizing radiator grille is not enough to take this legacy with you. The BMW M2 keeps the value best over five years and loses only 40.6% of its original value. Remarkably, the M4 Coupé comes quite close and loses only 44.1% of its value after five years.

The worst depreciation is predictable with the models with a high dollar M series. The BMW XM and M5 lead the load with a value of 61.1% or 60%. It is also worth noting that both models offer real plug-in hybrid drive strands. The only models here that do this. It is probably not a direct correlation, since both price tags announce in the middle to $ 100,000 that will probably contribute much more to steep depreciation. Of course, these models also see a high rental contract ratio, so that many drivers probably don’t even have to take a depreciation into account, since BMW probably does not reflect its own residues that the data that ISECARS have.

While we are sure that most customers are very aware of rejection of the pitfalls BMW M models, there were some surprises here. Pleasant even; The BMW M4 Coupé (both body styles) retains more than half of its value for over five years.
