BMW M235 Gran Coupé has a longer wheelbase in Auto Shanghai

They say that everything is bigger in Texas, but when it comes to BMWs, nothing china beats. Here the luxury brand builds and sells longer versions of the 5 and X5. But it’s not just the big boys who receive the stretching treatment. In fact, the 3, X3 and even the X1 on the largest market of BMW have grown longer.

Now the 2 Series Gran Coupé closes into the club. This stretched sedan is known internally as a F78 (compared to the global F74) and is a spiritual successor to the almost forgotten 1 -series sedan. It drives on a wheelbase that is longer than 110 mm (4.3 inches) than the international version of 2780 mm (a total of 109.4 inches) and fits almost to the original 7 Series E23. Total length? 4663 mm (183.5 inches), which actually does longer than the E28 5 series. BMW held the frameless doors, but stretched the back to correspond to the wheel of growth. The M -Performance variant is with quad exhaust tips and a subtle spoiler for trunk lid.

BMW revealed the M235L as part of its 42-car show case in Auto Shanghai and marked it as the first Gran Coupé in China and the second locally mounted M-Performance car according to the X1 M35L. However, we still cannot visit the rear badge, the “M” and “2” are the same size, while the “35L” is suppressed in a smaller font. To be clear, this is not a four -door M2.

In the interior of the photos in the back seat, photos show how much legroom is packed into BMW’s technically technology -technical sedan. BMW says it has attacked the rear bank again and strengthened the upholstery for better comfort. Further highlights of the cabin are discrete surrounding lighting, two-tone upholstery and a panoramic sliding roof with an electric shade.

Under the bonnet, it is familiar hardware with a local turn. The 2.0-liter four-cylinder from B48 Turboch does 296 hp, slightly less than the 312 hp version sold in the USA. Combined with a seven-speed dual clutch car and XDrive, it reaches 62 km/h in five seconds (100 km/h). It is actually a tenth more slower than the Euro Spec version, probably due to the additional weight from the extended proportions.

The M -Performance variant is perhaps the headliner from Auto Shanghai, but BMW also offers a cheaper 225L version. Pricing? The M235L begins at 363,900 RMB (approx. 50,000 US dollars). Mathematics for the 225l begins with a reasonable 259,900 RMB (approx. 35,500 USD).
