BMW has announced that the integration of artificial intelligence technology from the Chinese Startup Deepseek will be integrated into its vehicle models sold in China later this year. The German car manufacturer revealed the collaboration during the Shanghai Auto Show and emphasized his strategy to use locally developed technologies to improve its products.
According to Oliver Zipse, chairman of BMW, the partnership with Deepseek will strengthen the intelligent personal assistant of BMW by adding new functions and expanding access to information. The AI of Deepseek is already used by several large Chinese car manufacturers, including BYD, Geely and Great Wall, who rely on technology to provide advanced autonomous driving functions and intelligence in the car. This integration with BMW marks the latest example for global car manufacturers that turn to Chinese AI companies for scalable high-performance solutions.
BMW has increased its cooperation with Chinese technology companies in recent years. The company’s local F&E network, which includes institutions in Beijing, Shanghai and Shenyang, has enabled him to develop regional-specific technologies and to adapt to the fast-developing automotive landscape of the Chinese market. BMW has previously teamed up with companies such as Alibaba and Tencent into various AI initiatives, including voice assistants and advanced driver assistance platforms.
This latest agreement with Deepseek is part of the broader effort of BMW to integrate more advanced digital functions into its vehicles, since the global automotive industry moves towards software -defined architectures. The inclusion of Deepseek technology is expected to support advanced autonomous driving functions that improve the user interface in the car and offer additional functions for intelligent personal assistants.
