It was a busy month for BMW in the Nürburgring. Jackie Stewart’s challenging German route as “The Green Hell” served as the event location for prototype tests of several models. We talked about the next 3 Series (G50), i3 sedan (Na0) and the new IX3 (Na5), but there was another car. This modest M5 F90 was discovered at industry pool tests, so this is not a sports sedan of an enthusiast.
Judging according to the Munich plates, it could only be the BMW’s own prototype, unless a supplier is tested. Ok, but what makes it interesting? It may look like a standard M5 of the previous generation before the facelifting, but there is a subtle change at the rear. The fender extensions show that it is a test mule for … something. Obviously the M5 F90 does not come back, so we scratch the heads to find out what is.

The diagram is thickened when you consider BMW, the revised M5 is already testing. Although the G90 deliveries started just a few months ago, Car Paparazzi has already caught the LCI with new class design cues in front of the camera. This M5 F90 may not necessarily be a test mule for a future product. The engineers could evaluate certain components that ultimately go to a street model (or not).
The additional thickness of the M5 fenders already filled by the already filled makes us believe that it is a test mule for an SUV. However, we would not go so far to say that the next X5 m hides under the limousine body. Strangely enough, the fecal flake on the driver’s side seems to be more pronounced. It is always difficult to determine the identity of test mules, especially if you carry the body of a car that BMW no longer does. However, the vehicle clearly has a combustion engine, probably a large V8.
The M division has undertaken to keep the eight-cylinder alive in the long term, and we have already reported V8S about BMW Engineering The New X5, X6 and X7. Almost everyone wants an M5 G90 with an S68 that skipped the bulky plug-in hybrid setup. However, this ship has been sailed for a long time. We are only happy to see BMW’s relentless efforts to save the V8 in Downsizing. Hopefully this mysterious test mule is a sign of an exciting M product that is currently in the works. Crossed thumbs.
