BMW started the M5 production in July 2024 when the first limousines rolled from the assembly line. The Dingolfing plant in Germany began to do with cars in November. The deliveries only started at the end of the year, so it is premature to talk about sales figures. However, BMW is glad that the cars sell better than expected.
We spoke to Sylvia Neubauer, Vice President of customers, brands and sales at BMW M, who said that they have already increased the production of M5 G90. The company has also increased the M5 G99 edition even more compared to the original plan, so that the current production is evenly divided into the two body styles.

BMW believed that the limousine would blame two thirds of the overall demand over the entire life cycle and leave the car with the remaining third. However, this no longer seems to be the case, at least if we would judge what the religious books currently look like. Of course, this is a dynamic situation, so changes to the schedule are likely. It is particularly true when you consider that M is already testing a revised version with new class styling. Maybe some customers decide to wait for the LCI? Some like, although the life cycle impulse only comes out in the early 2027.
Maybe we shouldn’t be too surprised that the M5 touring is going so well. After all, BMW sold an M car for the first time in the USA. The Americans missed the rare M5 E34 and the V10-driven M5 E61. We recently learned that the M3 G81 does not get a US visa. Surprise or not, we are only happy to find out that his bigger brother is doing well in an SUV-obsessed world.
Ideally, BMW is now confident that it can send more cars to the USA and sell it. As we reported last year, retailers want a cheaper 5 -series touring G61 in addition to the G99. After all, the M5 touring is anything but affordable and from 125,275 US dollars before options.
