BMW Speedtop anesthesia in exclusive photos

We wouldn’t even have imagined that BMW would go on an M8 tour in our wildest dreams. You still don’t have it, but that’s just because the new speedtop is even better. This latest special project is essentially a second -door car version of the M8 and has a completely different body. So much that it is difficult for us to recognize that it is an M8 under the skin. It still looks known, but for another reason: Last year Skytop is now a car. Take a better look with our exclusive pictures.

We are in the 2025 Concorso d’Elanza Villa d’Este, where BMW enabled us to spend time with the speedtop. The lack of parking sensors indicates that we look at a concept, but the production version should be practically identical. As with the skytop, the shark nose is officially back, completely with a proportional kidney grill and slim headlights. BMW wore the sharp front fascia from the skytop, but they changed everything else from the outside.

The broad shoulders personally look even more impressive and give the profile an commanding attitude. The new BMW Burgundy shadow appears even more on a sunny day, although it was unfortunately cloudy by car during our limited time. Nevertheless, the speedtop is one of these cars that stand out immediately thanks to a fresh design, even though they are based on a model introduced seven years ago.

In the back area, slim taillights and oval exhaust tips reflect the skytop, but now there is a large, gently curved tailgate. BMW improved the generous length of the roof with a prominent spoiler, in which the third brake light is probably on the production model. The street version can also win a rear wiper, although it is too early to confirm. BMW probably retains these bikes when you consider that the production ready for production was recently discovered with the same alloys as the concept. The designers have also changed the wheel design for the Speedtop, and we will probably never see these alloys on another car.

With the production limited to 70 units, the speedtop is not as rare as the skytop, of the BMW only 50 examples. Logic tells us that we won’t see much of it on the street. The reality is that wealthy collectors probably don’t drive them as often as an M8. In view of the rarity and the steep price tags, the duo Targa and wagon remain rare sightings.

Ideally, part of the design magic is due to regular production BMWs. The upcoming list of new class will contain cleaner, smoother surfaces, so there is hope for returning after years of controversy. So that we don’t forget, BMW revised its design team last year. However, their influence is only seen in production models after 2029. Hopefully sketches of skytop and speedtop will serve as inspiration.
