BMW Speedtop Concept: The Luxury Sneaker

A cool sneaker from BMW – Hasn’t there been one yet? The BMW Z3 Coupé was undeniably cool and only reached the cult status years after the end of production. The Speedtop concept now ensures in a very similar way, not only in its unveiling on the Como Lake.

The Concorso d’Elanza on Lake Como is the most exclusive automotive event in Europe. Where can you better imagine the limited successor to the BMW Z3 Coupé (produced from 1998 to 2002) than in the magnificent Villa d’Este? For years, visitors have admired great cars from yesterday, today and tomorrow under the atmospheric backdrop of the Como Lake, the historic villas and the Elite luxury. The list of spectacular show cars is long. Just last year, the international car fans fell out about the shimmering Skytop concept -as the most exclusive version of the BMW 8 series.

This year’s jewel is no less noticeable and shares the same technical basis. A fast back or shooting brake siblings for the skytop – the speedtop, albeit still the title “concept” – is the focus of attention. Do not leave any potential buyers in doubt about a potential production run. While the 50 units of the Skytop were sold out in the shortest possible time and its prototypes are currently test miles, the speedtop is expected to be built in a limited run of 70 vehicles. It is likely that some were already mentally parked in exclusive private collections in the course of the unveiling weekend on Lake Comers. The audience in the Villa d’Este could not be more suitable.

Finally the BMW Z3 Coupé gets an extremely unusual descendant – more elite, more expensive and possibly more beautiful than ever. A unique weekend car that is intended for the smallest and exquisite circle for travel – only for two. Instead of sitting, the Speedtop offers leather departments with straps for luggage with the best quality and gives a charm here and there. The interior is as elegant in its warm, two-color finish as exclusive and manufactured according to the highest standards of Schedoni quality. In this context, the drive train – an over 600 hp turbocharged V8 – plays only a secondary role. Almost like the 14-spoke Bicolor fan bikes in style. But they have a second look: their complicated design forms a convincing harmony with the shark-nose front and the delicate lighting elements. It’s a shame that the Speedtop and Skytop will initiate the last chapter for the exclusive 8 series from BMW – at least for the time being.
