BMW Speedtop returns in breathtaking new pictures

They say beauty is in the eye of the viewer, but show me someone who does not appreciate how BMW designed the speedtop. The M8 touring, which will ever have a few, is again in new pictures for those who cannot get enough of the Bavarian shooting brake. Since his debut in Concorso d’Elanza Villa d’Este, we have learned one or two things about the dimensions of the car.

It measures 5000 millimeters (196.9 inches) length, 2,000 mm (78.7 inches) width and only 1.36 m (53.5 inches). This makes it a little shorter, wider and lower than the M8 gran coupe, while it shares the 2800 mm wheel stand of the M8-Coupé with 110.2 inches (110.2 inches). In contrast to these models, the Speedtop is exclusively a two -seater with a special luggage compartment in which the rear seats are normally located.

It is a much larger car than BMW’s “Clown Shoe” revival. This is no surprise because the concept of the concept is based on the Z4 M40i. This more compact shooting brake also had a shot on production, but was never created. If it had been environmentally friendly, it would have cost 250,000 € or half the speed of the Speedtop. It was also planned as a 50 units before higher ups in Munich shed the idea.

Whether the speedtop is € 500,000 for wealthy buyers. The Targa roof predecessor, the skytop, was wearing a similar price and BMW sold all 50 units. Now the two -door car can be won and aims at “collectors and connoisseurs”. Since production compared to the car of last year is increased by 20 units, BMW seems confident that it can easily sell all 70. Maybe some of those who missed the skytop have now on the speedtop.

Will we ever see these cars outside of AutoHows? In view of their rarity and their value, this appears unlikely. It is far more likely that you will discover one at an auction. The 3.0 CSL has already exceeded the € 1 million mark, and we suspect that it will not take long for the skytop and speedtop to enter a seven-digit area.

BMW is open to the idea of creating more individual commitments that could develop into production cars with a low volume. Who knows that it could even make a habit to reveal special models every year in the Concorso d’Elegaa Villa d’Este. It has brought the event for years with breathtaking concepts and now some of them to live.
