A BMW pickup? While it is often speculated and even longed for it, it seems that we are closest when the cool M3 pickup trucks run around the BMW headquarters. And of course the ODD Truck Conversion project was born by enthusiastic garages. In an exclusive chat with Bernd Koerber, Senior Vice President BMW brand and product management, we asked about the opportunity to wear a luxury pickup truck with a round. We have a clear answer: it doesn’t happen.
BMW sound buyers are difficult no

In the past we have entertained with BMW Execs about a pick -up born in Bavaria. Although the answers were usually not optimistic, the future of the brand in the work car segment was usually not correct. Koerber is apparently not so ready to entertain. When asked about luxury pickup trucks, he is clear: “I don’t think that would make sense,” he tells us. “Collection? No. Pickup is not a segment that we look at.” It looks as if BMW is satisfied with still building large SUVs that are still the bread and butter in most markets.
Of course, Koeber’s reaction doesn’t really shock us. When we interviewed Adrian van Hoydonk in 2023, the designer boss Adrian van Hooydonk, he has the possibilities that a BMW pickup -truck offered. “It is not an obvious fit for the BMW brand,” he told us. “We don’t have to follow every trend that happens.” His latter comment relates to the increased competition in the luxury collection room, including electrified newcomers such as Rivian and Teslas Cybertruck. He admitted that the segment became “interesting”, especially when adding electrified drive lines, but it was not of the opinion that it was necessary for BMW to “step in”.
Explore other segments?

Since Koerber makes it clear that a BMW collection does not take place, the space can be asked which other directions BMW could lead to the future in the future. While the brand has no plans to enter the truck market, there is always the possibility to explore new types of supply vehicles or to introduce special niche packages to existing SUVs. At the moment, BMW has not addressed these ideas and they only remain media speculations.
BMW previously surprised with unconventional products. Even if a pickup is not in the cards, enthusiasts can still speculate about other creative possibilities how the brand could expand its lineup. In the meantime, the brand is preparing to start a new generation of SUVs, starting with the G65 X5 in 2026, followed by the G67 X7. For those who still hope for a BMW Ute, we apologize. But it is not in the cards for the time being.
