BMW unveils stand for Tokyo Auto Salon 2026

BMW showed its best at the Japan Mobility Show and presented the M2 CS in Individual Velvet Blue. We now learn that the hottest G87 is coming to the 2026 Tokyo Auto Salon. It will be one of several cars equipped with M Performance Parts. In fact, the M3 and M5 Touring will share the BMW stand with an X7 M60i, all equipped with M Performance parts.

These larger M models are available in Japan, but the same cannot be said for the M2 CS. All 87 units earmarked for the Land of the Rising Sun have already been sold for ¥14,880,000. However, this price does not include the 10% consumption tax or the few available options such as carbon ceramic brakes and custom paint.

BMW Japan will begin deliveries of the M2 CS this month, and all vehicles will be right-hand drive. If you missed the Competition Sport but still want to see it up close, it will be on display at the Tokyo Auto Salon from January 9th to 11th. Official stand renderings show the coupé in the eye-catching color Velvet Blue. Buyers weren’t limited to the Individual color as the car was also offered in M Brooklyn Grey, M Portimao Blue and Sapphire Black.

We hear that production of the M2 CS will wrap up in July after less than 2,000 units. At around the same time, BMW will expand the range again. This time it is a permanent addition and not a limited special edition. The San Luis Potosi factory in Mexico is reportedly preparing to produce the M2 xDrive starting in July. The all-wheel drive sports coupe will only come with an automatic transmission and an unconfirmed 469 hp.

Purists need not worry, as the all-paw M2 won’t mean the end of the manual-transmission rear-drive model. Both versions will coexist until G87 production ends in mid-2029. The xDrive model may not even be the last update. A hardcore M2 CSL is not out of the question. In an interview with BMWBLOG Earlier this year, M engineering boss Dirk Häcker left the door open for an ultimate M2 at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

However, it hasn’t been approved yet, and even if it gets the green light, it won’t arrive anytime soon. With the M2 xDrive coming in 2026, a CSL is unlikely before 2027 or even 2028.
