BMW upgrades regensburg work for new class, but which car?

BMW will get the ball rolling with the second generation of the second generation on the product production of the new class towards the end of the year. The first EV will be compiled in the company’s new factory in Debrecen, Hungary. The i3 sedan will follow in the historic plant in Munich in 2026. The first long -wheel models built in China for the local market are expected to arrive next year. From 2027, the location of San Luis Potosi in Mexico will begin with the production of new class. But what about other factories?

Although at least six electric vehicles will be carried out in Spartanburg, South Carolina, BMW has not confirmed that this will be part of the new class portfolio. As a result, only the Regensburg location has been confirmed to build NK cars beyond the previously announced factories. In the city in the east of Bavaria, the most productive factory in the company’s European production network was held in 2024, with volume rose by 43.7% to 342,521 cars. It is currently preparing to record the “next model generation”.

It has already expanded the body to around 40,000 square meters to get there. Additional structural changes to the factory will be implemented this summer during a five -week downtime in the Regensburg factory. It is part of an investment of 550 million euros in the future-proof BMW system. Since the first NK model is still a few years away, BMW is not yet ready to disclose its identity. Perhaps we can make a well -founded guess if you consider that 1,400 units of the X1 and X2 are built every day.

In this sense, the rumored “NB5” IX1 is perhaps produced there. Sources near BMW claim that the electrical crossover of the next generation is planned for production in November 2027. However, the combustion engine X1 “U11” is probably not retired. After all, there has only been a life cycle impulse in this decade. Logic tells us that only the current IX1 is set to make room for his class successor.

While today’s IX1 can be recorded with front -wheel drive, This is not the case for the replacement. BMW has already announced that its NK Electric models will either be a rear or all-wheel drive. This also means that future Mini EVs will be busy RWD layout.

Assuming that the future IX1 will not take place in Regensburg, the only other model we can think of is the unconfirmed I1. However, our money is more on the crossover than on a small assembly line.
