BMW X5 Protection VR6 hides the armor in new photos

If there is no blue maker, you can confuse this for a normal BMW X5 M60i. However, this modest SUV is a completely different animal that serves as an armored version that is intended for serious protection. The updated VR6 protection debuted in 2023 with the styling optimizations from the MID-Cycle facelift of the G05. New pictures from the Czech Republic show this luxury fortress on wheels and can literally take a ball for them. Under its familiar design, high -strength steel reinforcements attach the doors, the roof, the side frame and the gravel.

The X5 protection VR6 also has a self-sealing fuel tank that prevents leaks after being hit by a ball while aluminum splinter protection protects the underbody from explosive attacks. BMW has further improved security with a armored partition in the freight area. Compared to a standard X5, this version also contains heated front sections of the side windows.

All this additional protection increases the weight of the SUV to a high weight of 3275 kilograms (ยง220 pounds). That is about 930 kg more than a standard -x5 M60i. Despite the additional mass, they still sprint from 0 to 62 km/h in respectable 5.9 seconds, only 1.6 seconds slower than the unsuitable model. However, the top speed is electronically limited to 130 km/h (250 km/h) (250 km/h).

Fuel efficiency is surprisingly sensible for such a strongly armored V8 vehicle. BMW estimates the consumption of the city at 19 liters per 100 kilometers (12.3 miles per gallon). The 83-liter fuel tank remains unchanged from the standard X5 M60i. Inside, it is a typical G05 matter, although with an integrated intercom and special controls before the equipment selection, to access the unique safety functions.

The X5 protection VR6, built by Spartanburg, is not the only armored offer from BMW. The latest 7 Series and Electric i7 are also equipped with protective variants. BMW has a long story of “security vehicles” that goes back to the first armored E23 7 series, which was introduced in 1978.
