Like all good things in life, the Z4 will end at some point. We have been reporting on the death of the roadster for some time and the clock is ticking. BMW will probably pull the plug on the “G29” in May 2026, with the last units of the M40i being on the US market. But before the sporty convertible drives into the proverbial sunset, it is said to get one last hurray.
Some believed that the M40i was the Swan song with a handicraft gear, but apparently this is not the case. A new report from a reliable insider posting on the Bimmer Post Forum claims that a final edition is in the works. BMW will allegedly publish it next spring, shortly before the third generation of Z4.
BMW is no stranger to the final output models. The 8 series bent last year in Japan with a namesake based on the M850i Limited Run version. The M3 MT Final Edition was the last of the three-pedal breed in the land of the rising sun, where the M8 models also received the final edition. The United States received an M760I final V12 a few years ago to mark the end of the line for the 6.6-liter twin turbo “N74”. If we look further back, we remember the final issue of X5 M50D and X7 M50D, which signals the retirement of the Quad turbo diesel.

What BMW has planned for the Z4 Final Edition is as good as ours. The soft top convertible presumably gets individual treatment with a striking color. Maybe there is also a unique bike design in stock. We imagine that it will be adjusted in the cabin, such as various upholstery and equipment. A special badge to mark the end of production would make sense.
Logic suggests that it is based on the M -Performance version and it would be appropriate to throw a switching shift. When it comes to pricing, we would bet that it would cost around 80,000 US dollars. Maybe even more if you get a three-pedal z40i with an individual color for $ 76,025. It remains to be seen whether the final edition is limited to a few markets or offered worldwide.
What comes after that? Well, nothing. After what we have heard, a direct successor to the G29 is not in the cards. Toyota has undertaken to keep the Supra alive with a next generation model, even if it means to go alone. Similar to the outgoing Z4, the coupé is built by Magna Steyr in Graz, Austria. The current Supra will also be equipped in 2026 after a final edition for Europe and Japan, which is equipped with the BMW, most powerful B58 motor version.
