If two cars in BMW’s huge line -up could not be more different, it should be the Z4 and the XM. One is a relatively light, two -seater, nimble roadster with attractive styling. The other is a heavy giant with five seats with a polarizing design. The contrast between them continues in the sales diagram of Q1 2025: the XM is falling while the Z4 is running.
The desirable roadster was delivered to 2,436 customers until March, which was slightly increased of 4.2%. Hey, we’ll take it. It is not a big surprise that interest in the convertible sports car increases. The introduction of a six-speed manual transmission for the Z4 M40i six-cylinder was probably contributed. Reports about the upcoming death may have prompted some buyers to reach a G29 while they are still available.
The third generation Z4 is expected to be exchanged next year when Magna Steyr ends production in Graz. The last car is scheduled to roll off the assembly line in March 2026. Unfortunately there is no word about a direct successor. In order to make things worse, the 8 Series Cabrio will also disappear next year, so that the 4 Series G23 is the only model of BMW with a folding plate top.

Between January and March, only 1,770 units were delivered worldwide when it comes to controversial XM. It is a significant decline of 14.3% compared to the same period in 2024. BMW is expected to give a mild update over the course of this year to resume interest. According to reports, the G09 will receive new color options and minor interior failures, although there is nothing to be written.
Just as the Z4 is essentially confirmed that it fades into the dark, it is also very unlikely that the XM will see a second generation. Before it is available at the end of 2028, BMW will run the version of the basic 644 hp version in the USA this year and will only leave the 738 hp label. The entry-level six-cylinder 50e variant with 469 hp will remain in Europe.
