The electrification of the auto industry can hit a few hurdles, but it is still the future of the automotive. And while we know that BMW M becomes electrically – no further than the hybrid -XM or the latest M5 – the How is what we have questions about. After all, performance brands have largely leaned against the combustion engine in the past in order to give the vehicle a feeling of the opportunity. In a chat with Sylvia Neubauer, the vice president, the brand and sales at BMW M, we get an insight into what will come.
Why M becomes electrical

Just like any other car manufacturer and performance outfit, M and BMW must take the future into account. From which electrification is an integral component; Ms. Neubauer shows the end date of burning in the Café regulations in the USA and Europe in 2035. China, she thinks she has a later date – around 2050.
“However, the good thing is that the BMW group was obliged to open the technology from the start,” she says. It thinks it is important that BMW offers attractive products in every market, and part of it is a versatile strategy for drive train. “We will always be able to deliver the right drive train to fans,” she says. “Be it plug-in hybrid speed, ice motors, all electrical applications.” While all electrical M cars arrive, they are not the only option. But anyway.
What does an electric M do special?

“I am very convinced that BMW M of the BMW M -DNA remains true to the BMW M -DNA,” says Sylvia when asked how the brand M -brand will stand out from apparently similar performance. This is double: “In terms of mileage, but also the overall driver’s experience.”
A brave claim that she is ready to secure. She works out and quotes her experience first-hand and ride ZA0-Die upcoming all-electric M3. In their words “stunning”, the ZA0 Electric M3 “delivers the same BMW M driving properties in terms of performance, but also this precision in the handling.” We are not sure how BMW has the quad engine Electric M to dance like the current model, but we have to take your word for it. “Beer power without handling is nothing. You can’t avoid the car, ”emphasizes Ms. Neubauer.
The passion is there

“I can assure you that there will be emotions in the BMW M3 and also in the all-electric BMW M3,” Sylvia begins when ICE M3 fans are asked to drive an eV. It also recognizes the important acoustic component of driving. She is easy to detail, but she says BMW M will remain loyal to his DNA. In addition, there seems to be no wish to emulate internal combustion noises or “walk -like noises”, some “other brands are likely to do it”.
Our conversation with Sylvia Neubauer gave us a great insight into how BMW M is planning for the transition to electrification. An important initiative seems to keep the inheritance of the brand that we appreciate, but also easier said than done. We have to wait and enter into production as fully electric M models in the coming years.
