BMW is just one day before the unveiling of his new coachbuilt project in the Concorso d’Elanza Villa d’Este. However, an apparently official image is already the round on social media. We not only get an early look at the breathtaking design, but also learn its name: Speedtop. The special model is essentially a shooting brake by the Targa Cabrio of last year and is equally attractive, maybe even more. Do we dare to say that it looks better than the open-air version?
It is a real shooting brake with just two doors and an almost flat roof line. Although the image quality is not particularly good, BMW seems to have chosen a different color this time. Last year Skytop wore a champagne-colored body, while the speedtop has a darker color that leans towards Burgundy. The two-tone bikes are also different and unique in this elegant car, although we prefer the Lamella style in Lamella style in the Targa style style.
In addition to the solid roof, the Speedtop on M8-based also has significantly larger quarter glass. While the more expansive greenhouse suggests a more spacious cabin, it remains a two -seater. BMW has already confirmed that they will remove the rear seats. So you can expect sufficient charge room instead. Another change that is delivered with the fixed roof is the addition of a rear spoiler. The overall profile causes a more sophisticated alternative to the Porsche Panamera Gran Turismo or the Mercedes CLS shooting brake.
The new Speedtop reflects the Concorso d’Elanza Villa d’Este concept of the last year and also skips traditional door handles. Do you see these electrically operated winglets at the base of the B pillars? BMW integrated them seamlessly into the belt to maintain a clean profile. This is not a characteristic of these two concept cars.
Although BMW has never produced an 8 -way tour, Speedtop was able to see a limited production. Finally, 50 buyers faced the skytop, which indicates that there is enough interest to justify some of his wagon siblings. At the moment, BMW describes the newcomer as a “unique”, although we are firmly convinced that a few dozen units could be sold to customers. How for pricing? In view of the reports, the Skytop will not be cheap.
