Already in 2016, Mini presented the Vision Next 100, a futuristic concept that did not prostent on the model of the next year, but rather to imagine what personal mobility could look like in decades. The car was created as part of the 100 -year celebration of the BMW Group and, as the values of Mini – were able to develop a Mall footprint, fun of driving and individuality – in a world of autonomous driving, car eyes and networked services.
Interpreting appearance and an intelligent core
The Mini Vision Next 100 is based on the idea that the car itself should no longer be in possession. Instead, it would be part of a common fleet – a mini could appear wherever they were, adapt to their preferences and feel like their own feel. To achieve this, Mini introduced a vehicle with a formal exterior exterior, which is covered with a smooth silver “empty canvas” skin. The surface could change the color and pattern depending on the user and effectively feel it individually without physically changing.
In the middle of the interior was the “Cooperizer”, a circular control border area that shone in color and shifted. This was not just a light show – it was a way to signal in which mode the car was, whether autonomous or manually, relaxed or energetic. It also controlled things such as infotainment and climate ideas that the cabin tailored to those.
The idea “Every mini is my mini”
One of the most future -oriented elements was the idea that people would not have minis at all. Instead, they have accessed one via a digital platform, and it would already be set up for their profile – a temporary steering feeling, entertainment selection, sitting position and even as it looked from the outside. It was a vision of mobility as a service, not as a product.
Less stuff, more substance
Inside, the concept kept things minimally. Most physical controls were removed and replaced by projections and touch -sensitive surfaces. The materials were sustainable and recyclable – long before every car manufacturer talked about circularity. The car was not about luxury; It was about clever use of space and resources.
What did it actually make for production?
While the Vision Next 100 did not become a production car, some of their ideas have found their way in Real Minis:
- The new circular OLED display in the 2025 Mini Cooper Electric clearly makes the cooperizer clear. It also acts as the main command center for drive modes, ambient lighting and infotainment.
- Mini Experience modes that can now be found in production cars enable the cabin to move the personality with sound, visuals and lighting -very similar to the cooperizer.
- The pressure towards sustainability is visible in the current list of Mini. The latest cars have leather -free interiors, recycled textiles and a simplified material approach that matches the goals of the concept.
- As for common mobility, Mini has not yet fully banned into the vision “Every mini is my mini”. Functions such as digital key plus, remote app integration and potential subscription models indicate that the infrastructure is created.
- Spike, The Mini Personal Assistant: Inserted in current mini models, Spike is a digital character and voice assistant who record natural voice commands, adapt vehicle settings, offer navigation aid and add everyday interactions.
A future still in progress
The Mini Vision Next 100 not only examined what a mini could be. It questioned how we could refer to cars. Although not everything came about-autonomous pickups and complete personalization on request are still a few years free, if at all-the topics of the concept will slowly appear in the electrified list of mini.
It may look like science fiction in 2016, but part of this future is already in exhibition rooms. For this reason, it is even more interesting how BMW will bring Mini into her new class after 2030.
