Mercedes-Benz is reportedly in advanced discussions to BMW’s four-cylinder petrol engines from BMW for a wide range of its future models for source. The move, which was first reported by Germany’s manager magazine, was able to play one of the most important engines from BMW, the B48, a central role in the internal combustion futures of both brands -and in the further sense of the BMW.
According to Manager Magazin, the two German competitors are at a high level of planning and negotiation, whereby an announcement is expected before the end of the year. If the deal were completed, the deal would be a great shift for Mercedes, which recently slowed down its EV introduction in response to the demand from weaker and revised its ICE strategy.
Why Mercedes BMWS B48 wants
The attraction is clear for Mercedes. The B48 motor family already fulfills Euro 7 standards and has been developed for both longitudinal and crosslayouts. This flexibility means that in everything, from compact cars such as CLA and GLA to medium-sized basic foods such as the C-Class, the E-Class and the GLC traps, it can be silenced from the upcoming “Little G.”
In contrast, Mercedes’ new internal M252 four-cylinder, which was developed in Germany and was developed in China by Horse (a joint venture from Geely-Renault), is limited in the area. It is offered in the latest CLA with expenditure of 136 to 190 hp and works well in mild hybrid form, but is not developed for plug-in hybrid or range extreme applications. However, the B48 has already been proven in such roles, which Mercedes offers a finished solution without massive new F&E E-Investment.
What does this mean for BMW and Mini
For BMW, the supply of engines to Mercedes would first mark a historical one: two German luxury machines that share combustion engines. It is framed as a “strategic step towards reducing development costs”, but it also signals that BMW does not have the intention to avert the B48 shortly.
The B48 today operates every combustion mini model from Cooper S to X2, and if BMW is a deeper, long-term development cycle for the engine shortly before use, indicate that both brands will continue to benefit from upgrades in relation to efficiency, emission conformity and potentially performance.
A common future and common costs
The partnership could go further. According to reports, the two companies could examine common production centers, including the possibility of a motor system based in the USA, in order to avoid increasing import duties. There is even speculation that gearbox could be part of the agreement in the long term.
If this deal is signed, it will not only be re -shaped Mercedes’ ice cream. It could also be locked and soothing for those of us as a BMW four-cylinder of the BMW (and the Mini) of the main support cylinder for the future of a turbo-reloaded Mini Cooper S or X1 with petrol electricity.
