The BMW group has announced another management environment in Mini, which marks the third change in the brand in just over a year at the top. With effect from October 1, 2025, the Jean-Philippe paraine becomes the chief of Mini, the successor to Stefan Richmann, who is entering into a new role as head of the financial and investor relationships at the BMW Group.
Jean-Philippe Parain steps in

Parain is not a stranger for BMW or Mini. Since he came to BMW France in 1997, he has built a career with the company for over three decades. His experience includes Stints as President and CEO of the BMW Group Belux, Head of Mini Europe and Head of the Europe Sales Region. Most recently, he was responsible for the enormous region of sales in the Asian-Pacific region, Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Africa, where Mini and BMW achieved considerable growth and achieved the management of the premium segment.
Stefan Richmann moves to the financing
In the move, Stefan Richmann leaves Mini after just one year. Richmann took over the brand in August 2024 through a time strong dynamics. Sales increased by 25%compared to the previous year in August 2025, with the new all -electrical models from Mini causing a large part of this growth. Despite his short term, Richmann led a decisive phase: the introduction of the brand new mini line-up. This included the 3-door hatch in both petrol and EV versions, the new compatriot with a purely electrical option and the debut of the ACEMAN, the first EV model from Mini. The high-performance variants of John Cooper Works (JCW) have also joined the updated family.
Richmann, who started his career at the BMW Group in 1997, will now return to the company’s financial side and bring experience as a CFO in the USA and as head of the corporate strategy. It is unclear whether Richmann had the time to complete the next product strategy that should penetrate after 2030.
Another sudden shift in Mini
The shuffle continues a time of instability in the top ranks of Mini. Richmann himself replaced Stefanie Wurst, who resigned as a brand manager in July 2024 after only two years. Wurst’s departure was equally unexpected, although it was the leading by the introduction of its new generation of vehicles. Parain’s challenge will be to stabilize the leadership of Mini and at the same time benefit from this dynamic and to ensure that the character and attractiveness of the brand in the middle of the wider advance of the BMW group are strong in the direction of electrification and premium positioning.
It remains unclear whether Mini will at some point switch to BMW’s new class platform. Such a shift would mark the end of the electrical minis of front applications, since NEE class models are designed as standard by a rear engine around a rear engine. At the same time, there are questions about the future of FAAR architecture, which underpins the current petrol models with petrol-petrol drive models from Mini.
