MINI Blackyard Edition shows its dark side in Germany

They say black never goes out of style, which explains why automakers keep releasing hackneyed special editions. The latest brand to obscure almost everything is MINI. There is now a new visual pack that includes four models. Germany gets the Blackyard Edition, available for the three- and five-door Cooper hatchbacks. The Aceman and Countryman crossovers complete the group.

As the name suggests, the Blackyard Edition ramps up the darkness even further. MINI tints the rear windows and paints the body in Midnight Black, but offers a surprising alternative: Nanuq White. Even then, the side mirror caps remain black to maintain contrast. Wheel options are limited to a 17-inch U-Spoke design or 18-inch Asteroid Spoke or Night Flash Spoke alloy wheels.

MINI isn’t showing the interior, but says all versions come with black upholstery and a matching headliner. The door panels and dashboard are also covered in dark materials to reinforce the theme. In addition to the visual changes, the Blackyard Edition offers generous standard equipment, including a head-up display.

The Blackyard Edition is available until June 30th and offers tangible benefits. It is more than a fixed configuration that you can easily recreate on the MINI Germany website. It offers significant savings over a similarly equipped regular model. Depending on the vehicle, MINI states that the discounts range between 1,590 and up to 2,180 euros.

More special editions are likely in the pipeline. After renewing its entire product range in recent years, MINI is not expected to bring a completely new product onto the market any time soon. Reports once suggested an electric convertible, but the “J03” never materialized. Instead, the BMW-owned brand seems ready to keep things fresh by spicing up its existing models with limited-edition versions.

Case in point is the Countryman Rugged Edition, which launches in South Africa this week. It follows the value-focused Oxford Edition for the US and the globally available Paul Smith Edition for Cooper hatchbacks in both body styles.

Whether these special editions will be enough to maintain last year’s strong momentum remains to be seen. With 288,290 vehicles delivered worldwide, 2025 was one of MINI’s best years. About a third of these were Countrymans, and more than 105,000 were electric models.
