More performance and better efficiency for M240i, M340i, M440i

If you have saved in Europe for a six-cylinder M-performance car, we have good news. BMW updates the B58 engine to deliver more electricity and at the same time reduce fuel consumption. From November, the M240i, M340i and M440i will be equipped with a developed version of the turbuing 3.0-liter unit.

The B58B30M2 revision adds 18 hp and significant 40 Newton meters (30 pound foot) torque, which increases 386 hp and 540 Nm (398 LB-FT). Regardless of whether you choose the M240i, M340i -Limousine/Touring or M440i Coupé/Cabrio/Gran Coupé, all receive the revised engine with an identical edition.

The additional performance shows in the sprint to 100 km/h for the M340i and M440i. The M340i sedan now does it in just 4.3 seconds or a tenth second faster than before. Stay with the M240i and also save on the pump, since the fuel consumption of 8.8 liters/100 km drops to 8.0 liters below the WLTP combination cycle.

As a memory, BMW only sells the M240i, M340i and M440i in Europe with XDRIVE. In the United States, however, buyers can continue to choose the rear wheel drive. Well, except for the car, since the 3 -series touring is not sold there. The Americans also miss the M340D and M440D, performance diesel that take a rare niche. It is unlikely that this m powered oil burner will return to another generation.

Even with the Power boost, this is not the strongest version of the B58 in this segment. The X3 M50 is overwhelming with 393 hp and 580 Nm (428 LB-FT). Larger non-M power models such as 5, 7, X5 and X7 also use the 3.0-liter unit. Toyota even increased it to 429 hp for the Supra Final Edition.

BMW will further refine the B58 for the next generation 3-series M power model. According to reports, the sports sedan should be renamed M350 and should offer up to 417 hp. An XDrive setup is certain, although it still hopes that the RWD version will live on. However, if this is the case, Europe may not get the rear-loving variant.
