Now that the proverbial dust settled after the IX3 was unveiled, we are shifting attention to BMW’s next big deal. No, not the X5 “G65”, also in 2026, but the new 3 Series. A fresh rendering attempt to fit into the future of the best-selling car of the company. It is not only guessed because this design study Cues from the concept of 2023 Vision contains new class with details on camouflaged prototypes.
Cod names “G50”, the eighth generation 3 Series will share a large part of its design with the full electrical i3 (“Na0”). The EV will be debut for the first time in 2026, later this year by the petrol-powered 3 Series. These two limousines will run the way for the second interpretation of the kidney grille by BMW in the era of the new class. While SUVs use a vertical orientation, limousines receive a horizontal layout that integrates properly into the headlights.
BMW has already said that it will be difficult to say the 3 and i3 apart from the distance, but an important award will remain: the “G50” will have a longer nose to absorb inline-six engines. The Bavarian brand has confirmed an M3 with six cylinders and guaranteed its arrival. The “G84” will probably introduce a light hybrid technology to comply with the emission regulations. As for an M power model, the future M350 will probably offer 48 -V support, just like the current M340i.

In addition to the fully redesigned front fascia, both the 3 and i3 pop-out door handles will apply similar to those of the IX3. Not only to style, but also to improve the air flow for higher efficiency. The electrical sedan could be a little shorter than today’s “G20”, although the camouflage could be deceptive. Hopefully the combustion companies will not grow any further, since the current model is almost as long as a 5 Series E34. At some point the increase of size has to stop, right?
In the back area, width taillights that are separated by the round can give the “G50” a wide, impressive attitude, especially at night. Regular models have no visible exhaust tips, with only the M350 and M3 show them. In the future, only M -Performance and complete M models will contain exposed quad tips.
For those who are looking for a smaller limousine with rear wheel drive, BMW has a model in progress. The 2-series gran coupé remains on its FWD platform, but rumors indicate that an I2 is built on the new class architecture around 2030. It would either offer back or all-wheel drive, which means that an electric grane coupé with electricity that is sent to the rear wheels is on the way. Mini is also expected to join the RWD party.
In the meantime, the Electric I3 is to enter production at the Munich plant in Munich in July 2026. The next 3 Series could follow in November, although his meeting will report to Dingolfing. This time there may be no further tour, despite previous reports about a long roof “G51”. Wagon fans in this segment may have to wait for the unconfirmed i3 Touring (“Na1”), which is later expected in the decade.
