New BMW M2 CS at the Goodwood Festival of Speed: Video presented

The M3 CS Touring is not the only competitive sports model that BMW will be exhibited this weekend at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Bavaria’s Super -Wagon shares the spotlight with the new M2 CS, which can impress in individual velvet blue. The British branch of the company takes us (previously) on a tour of the common G87 to show what has changed compared to a regular model.

The Carbon Ducktail Spoiler is not the only modification that BMW has carried out on the body, since the fronts splinter is also exclusively the M2 CS. In contrast to the car of the F87 generation, which contained a carbon fiber splitter, it consists of a combination of plastic and rubber. Why? According to Dirk Häcker, head of the engineering system at M, it is not a cost reduction measure. The construction of the new splitter is a result of the lower nose of the car, which makes it more susceptible to scratch on uneven roads.

While some other CS-Baded cars offered the buyers a selection of different wheel arches, this is not the case. The M2 competition is only with matt gold bronze alloys. Equipped with Pirelli P Zero Trofeo RS tires, the M2 CS is the fastest compact car around the Nürburgring.

In contrast to his predecessor, which was delivered with a manual transmission, the new model is an automatic matter. The six-speed manual would not have been able to cope with the additional performance of the improved S58 engine. The gear lever from eight-speed Steptronic is located in a tunnel from Carbon Fiber Center, which is not available on a standard M2. The carbon fiber shovel seats that are optionally on the regular car are standard on the CS. BMW contains a steering wheel with a flat bottom design, which is redesigned with Alcantara, but also loads for a heated version.

Since the Goodwood FOS take place in Great Britain, it is worth noting that the M2 CS costs £ 92,475. That is almost 24,000 pounds more than the basic version, enough to buy a new Mini Cooper 3 doors with the difference. The price gap is partially justified by the additional standard equipment and additional power. Nevertheless, it is a massive premium that is difficult to justify, especially given the lack of a manual option.

The M2 CS already proves to be a commercial hit against all chances of winning. Sylvia Neubauer, Vice President of customers, brands and sales at M, told us that there is “great demand”. BMW has provided a considerable number of additional build slots for some markets. At the time of writing, the United States are the leading region in terms of sales, followed by Germany and China.
