Like the gasoline-powered 2026 BMW 7 Series, on which the BMW i7 is based, BMW’s electric-powered range-topping model, the i7, isn’t changing much in its third model year. Although next year’s i7 should see more comprehensive changes accompanying the model in terms of its LCI (Life Cycle Impulse, as BMW calls its mid-lifecycle updates), the 2026 BMW i7 is playing it safe. The most important thing is probably the what not Change: The car’s MSRP has not increased compared to the last model year. Although the 2026 BMW i7 is not significantly different from its predecessors, there is still a lot to discover.

The BMW i7 is available in three different versions. The base car is the i7 eDrive50 with rear-wheel drive and 449 hp. According to BMW, the sprint from zero to 60 mph takes just 5.3 seconds. Next up is the xDrive60, which adds all-wheel drive and increases power to 536 horsepower. BMW claims a 0 to 60 mph time of 4.5 seconds. At the top is the i7 M70. With 650 horsepower, it’s no surprise that BMW claims the zero-to-60 mph sprint takes just 3.5 seconds. The M70 also gets painted brake calipers as well as M Sport design and wheels.

2026 BMW i7 charge and range

Connected to a high-capacity DC fast charger, the six-figure sedan can achieve a range of about 80-90 miles in about 12 minutes. If you use a lower power 125A/50kW DC charger, expect an additional 20-30 minutes to achieve the same result. At home, a BMW wallbox can cover around 90 miles in about three hours. To help with charging efforts – especially if you’re new to electric vehicles – there’s a 2,000 kWh charging credit from Electrify America included with every new 2026 BMW i7.

BMW equips the i7 with a 101.7 kWh battery. The brand claims that the Core i7 model can travel up to 500 kilometers on a full charge. The xDrive60 variant cuts the estimate slightly to 311 miles, while the high-performance M70 drops it even further to 285 miles. As with all electric vehicles, the choice of wheel also affects the range. For example, opting for 20-inch wheels on the i7 xDrive60 reduces the expected range to about 296 miles, while 21-inch wheels increases the range to 308 miles.

Interior and cargo space

As with all models in the BMW 7 Series, the i7’s interior just borders on Rolls-Royce decadence. For those more passenger-focused, the $7,250 Rear Executive Lounge Seat Package for the xDrive60 and M70 is just the ticket. The high-priced package includes opulent additions such as the rear cinema screen and adjustable rear seats. The 7 Series offers more interior options than any other model, and the 2026 BMW i7 is no different. Unlike the gas-powered 7 Series, Merino leather is standard and full leather is available for $5,450 (or more in some cases). The choice of trim elements ranges from carbon fiber and piano black to open-pore wood. Most amenities are also standard, such as heated/ventilated front seats, a panoramic sunroof and a Bowers & Wilkins sound system.

It’s worth noting that the 2026 BMW i7 has a slightly smaller trunk than gasoline-powered 7 Series. You’ll have to make do with 17.7 cubic feet instead of 19.1; Hopefully you didn’t need the extra two feet. Even if you’ve done that, the standard 40/20/40 split-folding rear seats make it easier to transport larger items when you really need to. Notably, the Lucid Air (22.1 cubic feet) and Tesla Model S (26 cubic feet) both surpass the BMW’s trunk space.

For drivers who prefer the car’s native infotainment to a smartphone, BMW offers a head-up display and cloud-based navigation as standard. iDrive 8.5 serves as the backbone of the system and features paired 12.3-inch digital displays and a 14.9-inch center touchscreen. As with other modern BMW models, the interface supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, responds to voice commands and connects seamlessly with the MyBMW app.

Safety and driver assistance functions

Predictably, the 2026 BMW i7 has a dazzling array of driver assistance features. Blind spot detection, frontal collision warning, lane departure warning, parking assistance and BMW Assist eCall are included as standard. Even on the $168,500 i7 M70, semi-automated cruise control is a $2,500 option, but well worth it in this price range. Again, regardless of trim level, a 360-degree camera and adaptive cruise control are included in the Premium package for $1,750. That should be an even easier check box.

Like last year, the 2026 BMW i7 starts at $105,700 before shipping and handling fees. For the xDrive60 variant, the price rises to $124,200, and the range-topping M70 costs $160,075. Oddly enough, there is now no lack of solid competition in this area. Competitors include the Porsche Taycan, the Audi e-tron GT and the Mercedes EQS (the latter at least in theory). The list also includes the Tesla Model S and Lucid Air. The i7 impresses with its solid dynamics, the excellent NVH management (noise, vibration, harshness) of its interior, its clear design and its high-quality interior.

2026 BMW i7: Our opinion

As we said in our review of what the 2026 gasoline BMW 7 Series has to offer: Big changes are coming. But they’re not there yet. So if you like what the i7 does and aren’t worried about potentially missing out on some nice upgrades, there’s no reason not to pull the trigger now. Interior ergonomics and exterior design are likely to change significantly, so there’s a case to be made for going into the 2026 model with a “known size.” Every time I drove the i7, I was mesmerized by the eerie silence in the cabin. Even with electric vehicles it is remarkable. This makes the impressive power delivery even more impressive. You will probably feel the same way!
