Once BMW Zagato Coupé Stuns in the BMW Museum

The Zagato coupé may be the most beautiful interpretation of the Z4, which is now being exhibited in the BMW Museum in Munich. This breathtaking two -seater sports car was dedicated part of the “Belle Machine” exhibition with cars with Italian connection. It was first shown 13 years ago. Some of them may remember the concept of seeing the concept at the 2012 Concorso d’Elanza Villa d’Este.

As with most cars that were presented on the banks of the Como lake, a production version was unfortunately never created. However, BMW did not rule out building a limited series, mainly for the United States and the United Arab Emirates. The original plan was to produce 2,000 cars and sell them around 150,000 US dollars, but that proved to be too tedious.

BMW would have significantly changed the Regensburger assembly line, which at that time built the E89. The Zagato coupé contained a completely different body that was handmade from aluminum and contained the characteristic double bladder roof of the design house. It was more than just a wonderful concept when BMW designed it as a street machine from day one. The company even carried out high -speed tests, so that it was closer to a fully functional prototype than a static show car.

There was another reason why it didn’t get green light. BMW was concerned that the proposed price buyer deterred. According to rumors, the higher ups were not certain that Zagato was a big name to justify a massive premium compared to the second generation Z4. The two companies have also worked together in a Roadster version that was later unveiled in the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in the same year. The open-top derivative did not make it to production either.

The Italian design house recently spoiled another BMW by designing the Bovensiepen Zagato. It is an M4 convertible that was founded in a coupé for a new company founded by Andreas and Florian Bovensiepen. In contrast to the Z4 projects, including the BMW -own concept coupé from 2023, this production becomes production.

Although Zagatos Z4S has never achieved production, the M8-based skytop and speedtop encourage signs that more special cars with low volume are planned for the coming years.
