The 2025 Mini JCW has a hidden exhaust tip that comes out over 3,000 rpm

If you believe that the 2025 Mini John Cooper Hardtop works and that Cabrio only inhales it through this with a middle of the exhaust pipe, think about it again. Under the rear bumper hidden, which is invisible to anyone who is not on the sidewalk, there is a second exhaust outlet – minis strange but clever solution for noise and sound management.

To see a pipe, to hear another

From eye level, the only backpipe from a centrally mounted, individual exit is to cause the spirit of the historic racing drivers of Mini. It looks clean. Symmetrical. Sporty. At the bottom on the driver’s side there is a secondary tube that is angled towards the floor and is activated by an internal valve that opens under certain conditions. A Mini product manager explained that the decision to go with a single pipe was a styling. However, the design and engineering team wanted to ensure that the exhaust sound was not affected.

But here is what Mini has not highlighted at the front: the hidden valve opens when the engine is cold or the gas of over 3,000 rpm is set. The system is completely automatically and throttled, so that you cannot switch it as you wish-but you know that it works when the volume rises both inside (active sound) and outside. This is not the first time that Mini is played with this type of setup. The outgoing F56 JCW has Dual -Center outputs with a butterfly valve inside. The strange part? Mini could have made both pipes visible and symmetrical. But they didn’t do it in true bizarre British fashion. You know that “charismatic simplicity”.

Decent noise

Now let’s talk about noise. Yes, the JCW can growl. But much of what you hear inside is the work of speakers, not whistle. The incredible and pops are nothing new for the BMW Group to do artificial in-cabin noise. Despite the additional pipe, the external volume of the JCW 2025 differs from its predecessor. It sounds about the same as the 2022 Mini JCW Hardtop (F56) – exactly enough to notice, but not disgusting. A large part of it depends on stricter emissions and noise regulations that have forced the car manufacturers to choose things.

Fortunately, the 2.0-liter B48 has a decent noise for a four-cylinder engine, so he conjures up a smile on her face, especially when you push this hot hatch into corners with quick climb and push down. You can also read our complete evaluation of the 2025 Mini JCW here.
