The 2026 BMW 2 Series Coupe will be more expensive, but is still BMW’s best driver’s car

Last year the BMW 2 Series Coupe saw a handful of updates and new options, so it’s no surprise that the car is mostly carried over. However, there are a few small packaging changes and a price increase to consider. The 2026 BMW 2 Series gets remote engine start as part of the Comfort or Premium package. Comfort Access and wireless charging are now also standard, which may make the price increase a little more manageable. We’ll go into more detail about pricing in the pricing section, but essentially the 2026 2 Series is more expensive than last year. In some cases by as much as $2,400, with the top-spec M240i xDrive closer to $60,000 depending on destination and handling than without. Despite this, the 2 Series Coupe is still arguably the best driving BMW you can buy today. Can you really put a price on that?

2026 BMW 2 Series Coupe engine, transmission and performance

The 2 Series gets familiar options in the powertrain department: the 230i models get a turbocharged four-cylinder, while the M240i models get the ubiquitous B58 inline-six. The four-piston engine produces 255 hp and 295 Nm of torque and sprints from zero to 60 miles per hour in about 5.5 seconds. The M240i, meanwhile, produces 382 hp and 369 Nm of torque. BMW claims the M240i xDrive can accelerate from zero to 60 mph in just under 4.1 seconds – identical to the M2. All variants use an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission, which you’ll find everywhere else in the BMW range.

Enthusiasts will want the M Sport package for the 230i, which includes an M-tuned suspension and a nicer steering wheel. The M Sport Professional package includes cosmetics, a “Sprint” function and M Sport brakes. The Pro package is just $250 on the M240i model, so it’s a worthwhile upgrade. Finally, M240i models gain access to a cooling and high-performance tire package. At $2,400, the cooling and tire upgrades are probably only worth it if you get warranty support. Otherwise, aftermarket options are likely to be cheaper up front.

2026 BMW 2 Series Coupe Fuel Economy and MPG

The 230i Coupé remains the king of the model range when it comes to fuel consumption. Like last year, the car’s EPA estimates are 30 mpg overall, which translates to 26 mpg in the city and 35 mpg on the highway. xDrive drops those numbers by 2 mpg across the board. The Acura Integra is probably the top performer in this segment, managing 32 mpg combined (29 city, 37 highway). Like last year, the M240i and M240i xDrive achieve the same fuel economy. The EPA says the M Performance models achieve 26 mpg overall, which translates to 23 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway. For reference, the Audi S3 did 23/31 city/highway with 50 horsepower less.

Interior and cargo space

Vernasca leather is available to replace the 2 Series’ standard SensaTec upholstery, but that option costs $1,500. That’s a lot of money – especially on a 230i – that we think could be spent elsewhere. Heated seats are standard, but snag the $1,300 Convenience Package if a heated steering wheel, sunroof and newly integrated remote engine start are priorities. The optional Harman Kardon stereo system increases the price to $900.

The 2026 BMW 2 Series Coupe offers a modest 10 cubic feet of trunk space, highlighting its compact footprint. However, in practice, rear seat accommodation is better than would be expected for a car of this size. Second-row passengers have 34.7 inches of headroom and 32.2 inches of legroom. So short trips are bearable for adults. When additional transportation flexibility is required, the 40/20/40 split-folding rear seats allow the cabin to be expanded beyond established load limits.

2026 BMW 2 Series Coupe technology and connectivity

Most of the best technology is bundled in the Premium Package (ZPP). Luckily, an upgrade no longer costs an exorbitant $3,300 – the 2026 BMW 2 Series can go premium for a cheaper $2,800 ($2,000 on M240i models). With a head-up display, adaptive full LED lights, automatic high beams and a garage door opener in addition to everything in the Convenience package, ZPP offers better value for money this time than last year. No matter what you choose, the 2 Series comes with the usual BMW technology as standard. Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, good voice commands and a great navigation system are included.

Safety and driver assistance functions

There’s nothing new for the 2026 BMW 2 Series here. Forward collision protection, active blind spot detection, lane departure warning and BMW Assist are standard equipment. The $700 Parking Assist package includes a 360-degree camera, which we really appreciate and usually recommend, but it’s not essential in a car as nimble as the 2 Series. None of the most sophisticated hands-free driving technology has made its way to the 2 Series yet, so you’ll have to look up to the 2026 3 Series if you want some of that.

Prices for the 2026 BMW 2 Series Coupe

We touched on price increases first, but we’ll lay it all out for you here. The 230i and 230i xDrive start at $41,700 and $43,700, respectively, and increase by $2,100. The M240i and M240i xDrive start at $53,000 and $55,000, respectively, an increase of $2,400. It’s expensive, but still costs $13,200 less than an M2 costs. Of course, if you take the loss of value into account, it’s very easy to justify the extra price for the M car. The 230i Coupé now largely exists in its own segment. There are no other premium coupe models available; So you can also compare cars that are more similar to the 2026 BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe.

2026 BMW 2 Series Coupe: Our opinion

While the 3 Series is probably a more practical choice, it’s hard not to love the 2 Series Coupe. The smaller dimensions pay off when things get twisty, which is exactly what buying a BMW is all about. It’s also more or less in a class of its own; As I said, there are no other premium coupes available these days. This makes cross-shopping difficult and a fair assessment of the 2 value almost impossible. While you may have to spend more than you’d like, you can at least take comfort in knowing that the 2 Series Coupe is perhaps the modern BMW that best pays homage to the brand’s finest models of the past.
