The 2028 BMW M5 facelift could get these colors

BMW has pledged to launch 40 new or updated models by the end of 2027. The M5 falls into the latter category as the super sedan is intended for a Life Cycle Impulse. We’ve already seen spy shots of a camouflaged prototype, although the “G90” didn’t hit the market until November 2024. The more practical “G99” Touring followed shortly after, so don’t expect the LCI models to appear any time soon.

The facelifted M5 Duo is reportedly set to enter production in July 2027, which would mean customer deliveries begin in less than two years. Long before the updated models reach the configurator, details about their color options are already known. A well-known BMW insider on the Bimmer post Forums had access to data showing the initial shades planned for the updated cars:

  • Alpine white
  • soot
  • Black sapphire
  • Sophisto Gray Brilliant
  • Marina Bay Blue
  • Storm Bay
  • Brooklyn Grey
  • Frozen Brooklyn Gray

As with the 2027 3 Series and i3 colors discussed yesterday, this list is likely incomplete for the M5. If none of that appeals to you, the M5 is in a privileged position as it offers a wide range of custom paint finishes. The current car is available in no fewer than 150 special colors, so there should be something for everyone.

There are no new colors in this initial list, but we hope BMW adds new paint options for the M5. If a CS version follows, it would make sense for the limited special edition to offer exclusive refinements. However, the M division hasn’t confirmed a Competition Sport variant, and even if it does happen, it won’t be available before the facelift.

Exterior colors aside, the same BMW insider claims to know what’s going on inside. The custom leather upholstery is said to include Silverstone/Black, Red/Black, Kyalami Orange/Black and Black. As already reported, the revised G90 and G99 models will also be more generously equipped with Alcantara.

How much of the design language of the Neue Klasse will be carried over to the M5 is unclear. Even if the exterior ultimately represents an evolution of today’s car, you can expect a revolution on the inside. BMW’s new iDrive infotainment system will completely transform the dashboard along with a column-shaped projection at the bottom of the windshield.

The new iX3’s simplified cabin will impact the aforementioned 40 models. While BMW doesn’t simply copy and paste the design across the entire lineup, we expect a screen-heavy layout and a further reduction in physical switchgear. And yes, that also means that the popular rotary knob will disappear from the M5. In addition, the regular 5 Series (G60/G61) will also adopt the completely revised layout.
