The new BMW iX3 will be manufactured in Mexico from August 2027

The second generation iX3 is currently being built exclusively in Debrecen at the new BMW factory in Hungary. However, preparations for the production of the New Class electric SUV are underway in two other plants. Production of the long wheelbase configuration will begin in China at the Shenyang factory in May 2026. This more spacious variant was assigned a different code name: NA6 and not that of the global model NA5.

We have known for some time that BMW will also build the iX3 at its factory in San Luis Potosí from 2027. This schedule suggests that deliveries of SLP-built vehicles should begin before the end of 2027.

The Mexican-built iX3 will be produced alongside the 2 Series/M2, which will last until the second half of 2029. As a reminder: BMW also produces the 3 Series in San Luis Potosí. While the current “G20” sports sedan is on its way out, we assume that the upcoming “G50” will also be built there.

The BMW plant in central Mexico has an annual production capacity of 175,000 units and employs around 3,700 people. The factory has been in operation since 2019 and has already built half a million vehicles. The milestone car, an M2 CS in Velvet Blue, was completed a few months ago.

Even after iX3 production begins in San Luis Potosí, our sources say vehicles destined for the US will continue to come from Debrecen.
