At the beginning of the year, BMW quietly revised its European configurator. At that time, only the X3 could be customized with the new and arguably more comprehensive tool. If you’ve been waiting for other models to make the transition, we have good news for you. The company’s extensive product range has now completely switched to the new car manufacturer. Whether you have your eye on a 1 Series or an XM, you can configure each model with the updated online customizer.
BMW has even revised the Z4 configurator, even though the roadster is only a few months away from retirement. As expected, the X4 and 8 series are not included as both models are basically discontinued and can no longer be ordered. Everything else is there, including the 7 Series with its two-tone paintwork. It is the only model that combines colors, although there is a two-tone X7 in Japan.
Speaking of special exterior paintwork: We were pleasantly surprised that some models have an integrated individual tool. Previously, customers had to use the separate BMW Individual Visualizer website to preview special colors. This is no longer necessary. You can choose an X5 in signal green directly in the German configurator. However, the standalone website remains the best option as it covers the entire color palette while the main site offers a figure with limited shades.

All models support the usual 360-degree view, but two go beyond that. Like the X3, the new iX3 also has a much more realistic 3D mode that gives off a video game atmosphere. For example, you can open the doors, the tailgate and even the front trunk. BMW also offers the option of adjusting the time of day and automatically switching on the headlights at dusk. BMW makes the interior much more detailed and offers a significantly improved zoom function.
After checking several European configurators, we discovered that BMW has rolled out its updated website across the continent. Unfortunately, an older version is currently in use in the USA. We’re trying to figure out whether Americans will have access to the new tool. This is certainly overdue, especially as the company is entering a new era with over 40 New Class models.
Logic expects the updated layout to spread globally in the coming months. We also expect the improved 3D view to be available on future model launches. Next year is expected to be particularly busy, with the i3 NA0, 3 Series G50, X5 G65 and 7 Series G70 facelifts scheduled to take place before the end of 2026.
