Ultra-served BMW Speedtop begins with production at the end of 2026

The second 500,000 dollar -BMW made his big debut last month in the prestigious concorso d’Elando d’Elanza d’Este last month. In the footsteps of the breathtaking skytop, the new BMW concept Speedtop continues in ultra-exclusive, handmade automobiles. While only 50 customers are delivered worldwide, the speedtop adds another 70 to the club – and still makes the car quite exclusive.

If you are among the few happy people, the waiting will not be short. According to our sources, BMW plans to manufacture and deliver the speedtop by the end of 2026. However, it is still unclear whether all units have already been spoken. Similar to the skytop, the selection process is strongly curated and anything but conventional.

VIPs and long-standing BMW collectors were priority when it came to skytop allocations, and we expect a similar approach for the Speedtop. BMW employs a committed sales team to cope with these high-end projects. Therefore, finding 70 interested parties should not be a major challenge.

Not Officially Come to the United States

However, if you live in the United States, be ready to pay a bonus – and not just because of the price tag. The speedtop will not be homological for US streets, which means that it is not certified for regular registration. Why? According to insiders, the costs for certification of such a low volume model in the USA are unaffordable. The US supervisory authorities usually need 10 to 12 additional vehicles for crash tests, and for a limited run of only 70 units, this would significantly reduce the already slim profitability of the project. In contrast, European regulations for the production of ultra-low volume are more forgiving.

Now some critics could make fun of and suggest that these models are “just built 8 or M8s”. But that’s a simplified one. Special projects such as The Skytop and Speedtop are technically and logistically challenging for a company such as BMW, whose factories are optimized for production with a high volume-not one-time one-time details. Instead of storing the job to third -party providers (as you did with the Concept Touring CoupĂ©), BMW produces both the Skytop and the Speedtop in Plant Dingolfing, whereby the focus is on manual craftsmanship. Even the leather comes from the in -house saddler department and underlines how tailor -made these builds really are.

However, there is some good news for American enthusiasts. Similar to the ultra-serving BMW 3.0 CSL, which gets quietly into some US garages, the speedtop could still find a few houses in the states, and probably also under rules and display or through creative import solutions. Some interested collectors have already submitted their inquiries. So don’t be too surprised if you can see one of these unicorns in the wild one day.
