A few years ago, Porsche did something cool. What is not really out of character; Like BMW, Porsche sometimes leans on his motorsport heir to move metal. As early as 2022, Porsche took out an older 911 – a 911 Carrera, nothing terribly unique or special – and gave him a complete overhaul. Body panels were cut, converted, redesigned and restored. The brakes, the chassis and the engine from the 996 GT3 were adjusted. Ultimately, it was an exercise to see what Stuttgart’s internal individualization wing (the “special request” or “special request” program) could really do.
Porsche has not duplicated the efforts since then. The Porsche 911 Classic Club Coupé, as it was mentioned, found its way into the comedian and the car collector Jerry Seinfeld’s collection of no surprise at a warm price of 1.2 million US dollars. But you ask yourself: What could BMW M and individual do (and/or BMW Classic) if you put together your heads and an older model “remastered”?
What could a “remastered” BMW look like?
It is important to note that Porsche did not start with something more obvious, like an older 964 chassis car. Instead, they opted for a “modern classic”, chassis, the 996. Nothing screams us like an E36 “less obvious choice”, but that is probably a personal prejudices. Instead, let’s decide for the E46 chassis, as it also existed as a contemporary with the 996. In parallel to the Porsche 911 Club -Coupé, BMW was able to do most E46 M3 running equipment without exchanging too much difficulties -after all, many tuners. As the 996 911, the Porsche breathed, there are various ways to improve the standard E46. “The strengthening of the body in white”, as Porsche puts so eloquently, would benefit the E46 in even more species than the P-Car project benefits.
While the mechanics are fairly simple, the selection of the color and individual options that are important enough to present them would be very personal. Like the restored 911, a BMW new interpretation would have to call the inheritance before and after the time of the car. Perhaps the newly designed BMW could be completed in an iconic E30 color like Henna Red or E36 color such as Techno Violet. Inside we imagine a few bucket seats that were either from the F82 M4 GTS or perhaps the regular competitive seats from the F80 M3 and so much raised. Wheels are also important. Maybe something tailor-made from BBS or maybe E46 M3 ZCP wheels (style 163m)?
We want more redesigned BMWS – where is the market?
BMW has such a long list of amazing chassis that the E46 described above is only a starting point. From the 1 -series coupé to the E30 and 2002 there are amazing candidates for new instruments and remastering in all points in BMWS inheritance. Then why does it seem to be something that is absent on the market? Porsches once are undoubtedly dazzling. But there are countless imitators: singer, Tuthill, Guntherworks, newcomers like Theon Design.
Well, now BMW has done this on both a smaller and a larger scale. The 3.0 -CSL was a kind of newness of the old CSL. In addition, BMW actually produced the vehicle on some scale – 50 units were sold. But that was more of an M4 in a costume, in contrast to a fundamental reinterpretation of where the brand came from in the past twenty to thirty years and in which they came.
The fact that the private sector Doesn’t have On BMW Restomods it jumped that there is no demand. Which I find surprising, but I can accept that I am wrong. Perhaps it is too much to hope that BMW Classic, M and individual should really consider combining strength to bring something for enthusiasts who can feel preparations such as the BMW Skytop and the ILK, which primarily fall in love with the brand.
