Not all luxury functions are striking. Some are subtle – like the way a car door closes. BMW’s soft automatic doors are one of these calm upgrades that make a difference. Instead of pushing the door, just put it gently and an electric motor closed the rest of the path.
The technology has existed for a while, appears for the first time in the 7 Series and has gradually entered other BMW models. It is more than just a unusual party trick – it helps to prevent beating, reduces the strain on the door components and ensures that each door is properly locked up. So, which BMWs are actually offering soft doors for sale today? Here is a breakdown over the current model area:
SUVs and crossover

- BMW X7 – The BMW flagship SUV, the X7, is equipped with soft doors in most cladding by default. In view of its positioning as a luxury family van, the feature fits directly in.
- BMW X5 and X5 m – Depending on the trim and market, soft-close doors are available as part of the executive package or luxury package. Not standard for all models.
- BMW X6 and X6 – Similar to the X5, the X6 offers an optional upgrade for higher cutouts.
- BMW XM – As the first dedicated performance SUV from BMW M, the XM soft-Clase doors contain standard equipment that reflect its ultra-luxurious efforts.
- BMW IX – Depending on the market configuration, the purely electric SUV offers soft-Clase doors as part of the Executive package.
Limousins, coupes and gran coupes

- BMW i7 and 7 series (G70, G11/G12) – The most consistent model with soft-class doors. By default, they are over all cladding, a suitable grade for BMW’s luxury flagship.
- BMW 8 series and M8 (G14/G15/G16 & F91/F92/F93) – Soft-Clase doors can usually be optional and available through packages or individual options via coupĂ©, convertible and gran coupĂ© variants.
BMW’s soft doors are one of the subtle luxury that they do not notice–to get used to them. They are mainly available in the larger and more luxurious vehicles of the brand and give the owner experience polish. This is the reason why many current customers complain about the lack of soft clasp doors in models such as the G60 5 series or G90/G99 BMW M5 Sedan and M5 Touring.
