Which luxury -EV is it actually worth?

For the 2026 model year, BMW has decided to bring the BMW IX to the USA at a slightly lower price and to introduce a new basic model, the IX XDRIVE45. Before that, the IX had been with another electrical luxury SUV that has been around for some time – the model X from Tesla. At the beginning of 84,990 US dollars, the model X has a premium of almost 10,000 US dollars compared to the entry level IX, which begins at $ 75,150 before delivery fees. Is the 2026 BMW IX XDrive45 the theft of the century? Or does the Tesla model X somehow deliver an additional 10,000 US dollars?

The 2026 BMW IX XDRIVE45 receives a crowd from outside upgrades with which it is easy to choose the next year. New cycling options, a new front grill design and narrower headlights are standard expenses. In addition, the M sports package is now available on the IX and adds aggressive bike designs and body work.

On the other hand, the Tesla model X has received minimal external updates since its debut at the end of 2015. While Kluge observers may find that there is a somewhat more optimal end, in addition to a slight ban on improvement at the rear headlight -Trim, little has changed. Overall, the model X is slightly larger than the IX. While the appearance is subjective, the IX definitely looks fresher – even if they are not particularly satisfied with the radiator grille. Nevertheless, both are good-looking vehicles and offer higher functions such as 22-inch wheels, LED headlights and flush door handles.

Inside, the 2026 BMW IX XDRIVE45 is just as luxurious as any of the higher equipment variants. Both the Tesla and the BMW feature screen-centered interior, but it is important to note that the model X is the only one that offers space for up to seven thanks to optional seating. As already mentioned, the model X is slightly larger than the IX XDrive45. This means that more space is sensible almost everywhere in the vehicle.

Model X offers 85 cubic feet cargo dream, while the IX offers about 78 cubic feet. The model X can undress the IX from the IX in front of the pre-legs and hind leg and head. That means it is only through slim margins – for example, you will enjoy one centimeter more leg space at the front. Overall, the model X grants and passengers grants more space, but the interior quality is doubtful compared to the IX. In addition, the IX offers a larger series of materials to choose from, including microfiber and perforated leather, and there are no lot of luxury features for the model X that the IX offers, such as glass controls and doors with soft cladding.

Performance and range

Since the IX XDRIVE45 is a new basic model, Power is after what last year’s IX of the past year did. You still enjoy 402 hp and 516 pound foot torque, enough to get the IX from zero to 60 miles per hour in a BMW-held 4.9 seconds. Not so quickly for EV standards. The range varies between 279 and 312 miles per load, and BMW says that the IX can calculate in 35 minutes in 35 minutes in 35 minutes.

The model X is delivered with more power than the BMW. The basic car has 670 hp and, according to Tesla, can delete from zero to 60 miles per hour in 3.8 seconds. Tesla claims a 316-mile area that is not far from where the BMW sits. The SuperCharger network, which will shortly be a valid option for BMW owners, sets up the X from 10 to 80 percent in about 20 minutes. After driving an IX XDrive50 (mechanically almost identical to the XDRIVE45) and Model X on the street and on the track, I can confidently say that the IX is the more dynamic driver – even if it could be a little slower from a start. Body roll is available in both and both are very heavy SUVs, but the IX offers a lot more communication via the steering wheel and the chassis.

Technology and functions

Both the X and IX XDRIVE45 are standard with dizzying technology. The most important thing is that driver aids: parking assistants and sensors, monitoring of blind stains, warning at the front and rear, collision warning, lane gear and driver monitoring are by default in both cases. While the model X has recently received updates in which the warning of the rear cross-traffic warning has been added, it is important to note that it cannot automatically slow down (in contrast to BMW system) and only uses a camera and no radar systems. The BMW advertises a 360-degree camera system that Tesla is missing. Many drivers may also find the complete lack of buttons in the interior of the model X confusing or at least unintended – the screen and two multifunction steering wheel buttons that control almost every aspect of experience.

In addition, Tesla Apple CarPlay or Android Auto does not offer its cars. Both are great solutions in the car for people who cannot bother to learn the subtleties of a new software system, as they are more or less dependent on the processes of their phone to run. Both the IX XDRIVE45 and the model X offer drivers integrated navigation, voice commands and app integration. The Tesla app has a little more usability (especially in Sentry mode), but the two are functionally very similar.

Overall, the model X and IX XDRIVE45 run a rather tight race. But in the end we don’t see where the X model is more established by a car as 10,000 US dollars. Model X not only feels less luxurious, but also misses some decisive security features that the IX can offer. Of course, Tesla offers autopilot, but when you consider that this is another 8,000 US dollar for technology, which at best is doubtful, our opinion is not influenced. Therefore, the BMW IX is not only the better car – it is also the better value.
