BMW Motorrad has again the past and presence of the highly expected BMW R 12 G/S, a motorcycle that pays homage to the legendary BMW R 80 G/s of 1980, and the latest progress in motorcycle technology and design.
The original R 80 G/s revolutionized the motorcycle class world by mixing the concept “terrain/road” (off-road/street) (off-road/road) concept and combining real off-road capabilities with tour comfort and dynamic performance. The new R 12 G/S honors this inheritance with classic enduro aesthetics, including long chassis, cross-spoke wheels and a compact cockpit cladding, which has been updated with modern ergonomics and performance for ambitious off-road drivers.
The engine
In the heart of the R 12 g/s is the air/oil/oil boxer engine from BMW 1,170 ccm and delivers a powerful 109 hp at 7,000 rpm and an impressive torque of 115 Nm at 6,500 rpm. The bicycle with an influencing system with a left-wing influence and a high-assembled rear rear sill damper not only retains its characteristic boxer charm, but also meets the strict requirements of the enduro riding.
BMW has meticulously manufactured the R 12 G/S with a one-piece tubular bridge steel room frame, which was specially optimized for the superior off-road handling with increased and forward-positioned steering head. The suspension is equally impressive and has a fully adjustable telescopic fork with 210 mm at the front and a parallional vibration, paired with a fully adjustable rear shock absorber that offers 200 mm drive. Drivers can confidently tackle the challenging area, which are further supported by the large 21-inch front wheel with a 17-inch rear wheel with an optional 18-inch rear wheel in the Enduro package professional.
Full technology
The braking performance is improved by BMW Motorcycle ABS Pro, Standard on the R 12 G/S, which also offers extraordinary security when it comes to aggressive brakes in corners. The drivers have several standard riding modes, street and enduro with an optional enduro pro mode for those who are looking for even greater control off-road. Dynamic traction control (DTC) and engine resistance control (MSR) ensure optimal traction and a smooth power supply.
The ergonomics are also carefully considered, with three different seating options for different riding styles and preferences. The flat solo seat, which was specially developed for enduro riding, enables excellent freedom of movement, while optional packages offer a rally style seat with an increased height or a comfortable passenger kit. Adjustable handlebars and special enduro foot supports complete the ergonomic improvements.
In accordance with its timeless, yet modern design philosophy, BMW organizes the R 12 G/s with powerful LED lighting units with an unmistakable with “X” -Formed headlight. An optional adaptive headlight further improves visibility during night trips. The classically designed round instrument cluster keeps the legendary legacy of the motorcycle available with an optional digital display.
Three different colors
The R 12 g/s is offered in three attractive color schemes: the minimalist night -black matt, the lively light with red accents and the exclusive option 719 Aragonit with a refined mixture of sandrover matt, racing red and mineral gray metallic.
With the introduction of the BMW R 12 G/S BMW Motorrad continues its famous tradition to combine the legacy with innovation and to deliver a motorcycle that is as versatile and adventurous as the drivers who choose.
