You know that it will be a real track day on which Chris Harris is presenting the keys to a new BMW M4 CS. And loyal to the shape, Harris not only pulled it – he drifted it. Hard. On a cold day. With DSC. And cup 2s overtime. The judgment? “Tot impressive.”
The M4-CS may not bear the complete CSL badge, but that’s the whole point. “This is not the CSL,” Harris notes with a side grin. In a world in which performance often goes at the expense of comfort – or vice versa – the M4 CS makes a rare balance. A car with real duality.
On the trail of Harris immediately clicked the chassis. The revised dampers, which are less punishable than the CSL’s hardcore setup, made it possible for the car to easily push over the asphalt. He praises the damper setup in this car, which is more forgiving than in the M4 -CSL.
However, grip is what the M4 CS really defines. With Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, the CS is on the route as if it had something to prove. Even in two-wheel drive mode, whereby the stability control was completely eliminated, Harris had hard and hard work to break the traction. He couldn’t believe how it just lasted at 11 degrees. This is outside the ideal range of Cup 2 and still a monster.
But it’s not all perfection. Harris points a finger on the steering wheel – especially the edge thickness. He saves special praise for the brakes, which they describe as “excellent”.
Yes, it is expensive, says Harris. But he represents a challenge: “With which other car you can do that – work, serious pace, four people on board and still drive every day? And when Harris says that, you know that BMW has nailed it.
