Charged EVs | LG Chem and KEMCO to provide battery precursor supplies in South Korea

LG Chem has shaped a three way partnership with battery supplies producer Korea Vitality Supplies (KEMCO) to speculate greater than 200 billion KRW ($160 million) within the building of a battery precursor supplies manufacturing line within the Onsan Industrial Complicated in Ulsan. Development of the road is about to start this July.

The metals offered by KEMCO and recycled metals from scrap and waste batteries will probably be recycled and used to provide NCMA precursor supplies for EV batteries. LG Chem says, “The recycling means of the three way partnership combines dry and moist processes to maximise the metallic restoration charge in comparison with current processes.”

After full manufacturing begins within the second quarter of 2024, LG Chem says the manufacturing line will produce 20,000 tons of precursor metals per yr.

Precursor supplies from the road will provide LG Chem’s cathode plant in Cheongju, South Korea.
