Charged EVs | STMicroelectronics provides SiC semiconductors for SEMIKRON’s EV energy modules

Semiconductor supplier STMicroelectronics is supplying SiC semiconductors for SEMIKRON’s eMPack EV energy modules. “Along with its transformative impact in e-mobility, our SiC expertise, now in its third era, is driving elevated effectivity, efficiency and reliability in sustainable vitality and industrial power-control purposes,” stated STMicroelectronics Government VP Edoardo Merli.

As a part of a four-year technical collaboration, SEMIKRON and STMicroelectronics engineers built-in STPOWER SiC MOSFETS with SEMIKRON’s absolutely sintered Direct Pressed Die (DPD) meeting course of. In accordance with STMicroelectronics, DPD “enhances module efficiency and reliability, and allows cost-effective energy and voltage scaling.”

The eMPack is accessible with 750 V and 1,200 V platforms, and covers purposes from 100 kW to 750 kW and battery techniques starting from 400 V to 800 V.

Semikron says it has a billion-euro contract to produce a German carmaker with eMPacks, and manufacturing is slated to start in 2025.
