Umicore has opened a plant in Nysa, Poland to provide cathode lively materials for EVs.
Development of the gigafactory began in 2019, and manufacturing for automotive firm and battery cell clients in Europe started this July.
“Nysa’s annual manufacturing capability is ready to achieve 20 GWh by the tip of 2023 and 40 GWh in 2024, with the potential to rise to over 200 GWh, or 3 million electrical autos, within the second half of the last decade,” says the corporate.
The plant receives all its energy from an onshore wind farm, in keeping with the corporate.

“This progress trajectory is a part of Umicore’s ambition to achieve worldwide capability of greater than 400 GWh by 2030, and general technique to determine totally built-in regional battery materials worth chains on three continents,” says the corporate. “To this finish, Umicore plans to assemble a precursor and cathode lively supplies facility in Canada and increase its current capability in Asia.”
