Wolfspeed, a silicon carbide and gallium nitride know-how firm, is planning to construct a brand new facility to fabricate 200 mm silicon carbide wafers in Chatham County, North Carolina. The wafers will provide the corporate’s Mohawk Valley Fab—a silicon carbide fabrication facility.
The corporate hopes the brand new facility will allow it to extend manufacturing capability 10-fold relative to its supplies facility in Durham, and says it expects part one of many building to be completed in 2024 at a value of about $1.3 billion.
“Between 2024 and the top of the last decade, the corporate will add extra capability as wanted, finally occupying a couple of million sq. toes on the 445-acre web site,” says Wolfspeed.
