Ford unveiled a redesigned 2024 Mustang in September, though the automaker just didn’t confirm horsepower numbers at the time.
The wait was finally over when Ford released numbers Thursday, and they’re higher across the board.
The range starts with the 2024 Mustang Ecoboost, whose 2.3-liter turbocharged 4 will pump out 315 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque versus the current Mustang Ecoboost’s 310 hp and 350 lb-ft.
The current Mustang Ecoboost can be ordered with a Performance Pack that increases output to 330 hp, although Ford hasn’t said if anything similar will be offered for the restyled version. However, the redesigned Mustang Ecoboost will offer an active exhaust option, although Ford hasn’t said if this will add additional horsepower.

The 2024 Mustang GT class climbs the ladder, delivering 480 hp and 415 lb-ft of torque from a 5.0-liter V8, versus the current Mustang GT’s 450 hp and 410 lb-ft. In the case of the redesigned Mustang GT, adding the active exhaust option will increase power to 486 hp and 418 lb-ft, Ford has confirmed.
At the top of the range is the new strain 2024 Mustang Dark Horse. This class also gets a 5.0-liter V-8, but with power that climbs to 500 hp and 418 lb-ft of torque. The engine benefits from connecting rods from the previous Shelby GT500, as well as a new dual throttle body design meant to improve airflow into the engine. At launch, Ford said it was targeting 480 hp for the GT and 500 for the dark horse. Now those numbers are confirmed and they are accompanied by torque numbers.
The Dark Horse is actually not a single model, but a new performance series. In addition to the track-focused but street-legal regular Dark Horse, there will also be a track-only Dark Horse S and a race-only Dark Horse R. Ford did not provide specifications for these track-only variants.
The 2024 Mustang launches next summer with a choice of 6-speed manual or 10-speed automatic transmission and either coupe or convertible body styles. Pricing information will be announced shortly before launch.
