2024 Porsche Taycan spy footage

The Porsche Taycan is about to be updated, as evidenced by camouflaged prototypes spotted in the wild.

The all-electric Taycan debuted as a sedan for the 2020 model year, spawning the Cross Turismo Softroader and Sport Turismo Kombi body styles for 2021 and 2022, respectively.

The full updated range should arrive for the 2024 model year, meaning a launch later this year is likely, although the launch could be pushed back to early 2024.

The prototypes show subtle changes at both ends. There appear to be revised bezels front and rear, as well as new wheel patterns. We also know that the updated Taycan will feature new fixtures for the Matrix LED headlights with four individual LED elements. Porsche showed off the new headlight last month and confirmed it will deliver a more precise light pattern and twice the brightness of the current version.

It’s not clear if powertrain changes are planned, but new battery chemistry could potentially result in increased range or power discharge capability, or both. Porsche is also likely to make some software tweaks, as the automaker has added minor software updates every year since the Taycan was launched.

The Taycan’s performance is currently outperformed by the Turbo S-Class, which tops out at 616 hp (750 hp temporarily), or for a 0-60 mph acceleration in 2.6 seconds and a top speed of around 262 mph enough.

Depending on the equipment, Taycan buyers also have two battery options: 79.2 and 93.4 kWh.

We could be rumored to be seeing a new top option, and prototypes that look like such a model have been spotted, a potential Taycan Turbo GT with closer to 1,000 horsepower or enough power to outshine the Tesla Model S Plaid of the towing strips. The current Turbo S already dethroned the Tesla as the fastest production EV around the ring last summer by registering a lap time of 7:33.35. That’s over two seconds faster than the Tesla’s time.
