Aion, the EV brand of China’s GAC Group, used the 2022 Guangzhou Auto Show to unveil the second model of its new premium vehicle sub-brand Hyper.
The new model is the Hyper GT, a sleek sedan based on Aion’s next-generation AEP 3.0 EV platform, set to go on sale in China in 2023.
It complements the Hyper SSR hypercar unveiled by Aion in September, which is also scheduled to go on sale in China in 2023.
The Hyper GT features vertical supercar-style doors up front and a sleek body that’s said to deliver a drag coefficient of just 0.19Cd. That beats the Mercedes-Benz EQS and Tesla Model S, both of which have a Cd of 0.20, although the Lightyear 0 still holds the production car record with its Cd of 0.175.

Less drag means improved range, and according to Aion, the Hyper GT is said to deliver a range in excess of 300 miles. Only one powertrain configuration was announced: a single motor on the rear axle rated at 335 maximum horsepower and 320 lb-ft of torque.
While those numbers aren’t anything special in the world of electric vehicles, Aion says the Hyper GT will sprint from standstill to 60mph in about four seconds. A two-engine powertrain is planned, along with a performance powertrain option and a hatchback body style.
The Hyper GT also has almost 40 sensors, including lidar. Aion said one configuration will have three built-in lidar sensors, though the company hasn’t said if there will be a self-driving system to take advantage of the lidars’ sensor capabilities.
The Guangzhou Auto Show runs from December 30, 2022 to January 8, 2023. The show was originally scheduled for November but was postponed due to Covid restrictions.
