There are two ways to see the cladding on vehicles. 1) It helps to protect the color on the off -road, to take over the conditions of the winter road and to manage the abuse of different terrain and climate zones. 2) It looks cheap and sticky, which does not give the vehicle outside aesthetics and makes vehicles appear “robust”.
Over time, I think that we all lean towards the latter. Let’s be honest with ourselves. How often has the average driver traveling less on the streets, where he will come across a hard environment in which the cladding is a necessary aesthetic feature, the bumper and fenders can protect against the appearance of the Mohave desert and Yellowstone? Subaru was the most prominent perpetrator when beating into the cladding, not only for the bumpers, but also for the fender flares and the side profiles. Just take a look at the current WRX and every model that carries the wilderness badge.
Subaru may have a certain reason in their design decisions, since the typical buyer for an outback or forester is not the same Honda CR-V or VW-Tiguan owner. They are outdoors, often in nature, regardless of the season. Perhaps the plastic strikers together with ground clearance have a legitimate function. However, there is no possibility that the average new vehicle you see on the streets today is necessary.
And do you advise who we can thank for this sudden change in the outer design? The emerging EV market. Take a look at a KIA EV6, Cadillac Optiq, Ford Mustang Mach-E etc., and what you notice is either an auto-like appearance or a contrasting shiny black cladding for the bike columns, even though they are sold as a crossover. With the lack of tangible ground clearance for off-road excursions, these EVs are really for mall terrain. This styling CUE was also found on the higher drugs for Kia Sportage and Sorento and the Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line. There are a number of other crossovers, mainly in the luxury segments that can be named, but we would be here all day.
The point here is that the direction of the design trends is slowly changing, which luckily bring us back to an optimized appearance for the mainstream and the most boring daily driver. Find an almost 20 -year -old Toyota Rav4 and there is no “robust” appearance itself, but a clean design that is now much better than some modern crossovers. This does not mean that we do not need off-road equipment with all-terrain tires and a raised suspension. All of this is necessary, and some Americans endeavor to have a vehicle that can meet their requirements without output well over $ 50,000 for a competent truck or SUV.

The less outstanding reason for the cladding does not value the vehicles
Perhaps you have a vehicle with cladding or parking constantly next to you when you make errands, and the first thing you notice is the gradual fading of the plastic. If it seems new and maybe even looks “cool” and then seems to be neglected and old quickly after a few years in the sun. It is a constant struggle for maintenance, and there are products that you can buy in the entrance and apply your vehicle to bring the exhibition room back to completion. At some point the efforts are not worth the results.
Even for me as a VB Subaru WRX owner, I was made aware of the slow deterioration of the fenders and bumpers. Fortunately, I have Aftermarket options to transform the car by driving with a full paint, even though it is a rather expensive decision. I said for almost 2 years that “the cladding for the winter is functional. There is no reason to exchange them” if in reality wear and time do not begin to show, even after 24 months.
The truth is for many of us, including me, the disguise makes no sense. If you are really concerned about protecting the color of your car, truck or SUV, I would suggest going to a detailed business and putting PPF together with a ceramic coating. No affordable options in no way, but it extends the new condition of the color and prevents stone chips if you choose PPF. While the Americans have got used to the capable and versatile attributes of SUVs in the post -pandemic era when this trend began, it should not be a size of a size. It is okay not to have plastic.
