The Swedish car manufacturer had already confirmed plans for the EX60 when he announced his financial results in February. According to Volvo, the EX60 2026 is the first model based on its next generation SPA3 dedicated EV platform. The company also found that prototype tests are already underway.
The current EV platform from Volvo, the Spa2, was only introduced in the EX90 last year. Since then it has produced the ES90 and is also used in Polestars 3 medium -sized SUV.
Volvo ES90
The original SPA platform, which debuted with the XC90 a decade ago, was designed for gas and plug-in hybrid drive strands. While Spa3 is based on Spa2, Volvo emphasizes that the two platforms share the same software and hardware modules, which are referred to as Volvo Cars Superet Tech Stack. SPA3, however, improves scalability and enables it to suspend a larger series of vehicle sizes, from Sub -compacts in full size models.
Another important progress that is expected with SPA3 is that Introduction of the mega castingA production technology in which several body structure components are replaced by a single cast component. This approach reduces the weight and improves manufacturing efficiency. In 2022, Volvo announced that Mega-casting would be implemented in his work in Torslanda in Sweden, which was currently producing the XC60 and confirmed as a production point for vehicles based in SPA3.
