Column: Is the Taycan really the EV of the enthusiast?

After we have just picked up my friends, we are four in the revised Taycan and everyone laughs at our hats. It was a little more than five years since I drove Porsche’s Maden eV for the first time after the start here in the Netherlands. Admittedly, it was the first EV that I had ever driven if they didn’t count a forklift or a van. In real turbos fashion, the performance and especially the accessibility to performance absolutely shocked me. Today I think how I did it at the time, how ridiculous you should be to sell this car to a member of the public and (2) to buy it. The proof of my first impressions was recorded in a video that I showed everyone who is curious about what performance they do. You can clearly hear how my breath was removed from my lung when I was pushed back into the seat so far that my eyes had forgotten which way to show. It was really uncomfortable … um, I mean impressive.

Configuration:
Almost exactly as I would specify it is the basic model Sport Turismo body with RWD and the small battery (79.2 kWhr). I believe in the start control, I got almost 375 hp, but as far as I knew it felt much more. The direct performance ensures tedious storage work that you know. Tires were the Goodyear F1 265/65R21 and 305/30r21 on the front and back and back, with a straight sufficient side wall and footprint, to enable a consistent baseline of the mechanical handle and a minimal NVH level (noise vibration harness). With the “Electric Sports Sound” I heard by speakers, which I heard, was established in connection with Star Wars sound designers, NVH is negligible. However, the low sums, if it is not accelerated, becomes a little annoying, especially for passengers in the rear. Switch the PSM (Porsche Stability Management) into sports and unlock a predictive playful attitude that is missing to most EVs (and most current ice sports cars on this matter). In combination with the chassis and the damper, your passengers will laugh all the way with them.

Revised dampers:
Porsche has refined his experiment since then and brought a new dimension of dynamic control into an already class -leading chassis. With an additional 240 kg with the friendly approval of my friends, one would expect that a car breaks down dynamically with such an immediacy input, even with all these updated systems. However, Porsche has again proven why they dominate these aspects so well.

I confess that the streets here are very well maintained, mostly unaffected, and it is difficult for them to engage the car in this way to challenge the housing or lock. Nevertheless, and also because of the functioning of these systems in connection with the tires, I was surprised by the self-confidence that was granted to me when I plowed bending and off-camber corners by streaking. We are also in the middle of autumn, which makes the establishment of a connection between the driver and the car more and more precarious. Change of the grip values, the change in the surface temperatures and the current memory of the additional weight that I came from my passengers was by no means to the detriment of the car. If not obvious, Porsche has increased the performance between Taycan and its competitors even further. Compared to my personal favorite, the 1111 PS Lucid Air Dream Edition, it feels more coherent than before, albeit a less comprehensive product than the clear.

More comparisons with the clear:
The clear perspective takes a system -technical perspective and feels like a coherent product, although more luxurious. The width of skills is more expansive, and there remains a place for the focused approach of the Taycan. The Taycan is a lot of fun. The clear thing is simply impressive. Both tickle it very difficult to itch that we have one of us with a preference for a good time in a car. And both do this very sophisticated. I think Matt Farah has done it well lately after he had acquired a used Taycan for himself. In his case an AWD Taycan 4 example in the same body style.

Industry shift:
That brings me to my next point. This great decades of impetus to bring EVS onto the market had a very positive influence on us, enthusiasts. As much as it is suffocating in the automotive industry in Europe, the millions of cars that are produced from IT have largely copied. And most of them to less than half of their original MSRP. The technology that moved quickly accelerated this process. Not to mention the fantastic leasing offers that you can get in most countries with a sophisticated market for brand new. Entry into a used RWD Taycan with 20,000 kilometers with the extended battery is the best way to pull out the value from the car seat if you insist that it is electrical. Of course, one should make sure that a guarantee that has not yet been completed and with the thousands of specifications for a basic car with color and certain characteristics can even be picky. Some of them like the Burmester sound system are necessary.

I would even say that a deal like what I describe above offers so much joy that you can extract from a modern car. Don’t even let me mention the fact that the ecologically friendly decision that can be made when buying a car is to buy a second hand. With all these new adas and general driver assistance systems in all of our favorite sports cars that you do deaf anyway, I would rather have the advantage of a quiet daily transport in the form of an appealing four-seater-EV. Especially here in the Netherlands with our dense load network, which facilitates any sense of reach of fear.

Apart from the reason, I just didn’t expect to have as much fun as with this car. My friends also loved it and hardly managed to stick together through corners. In the meantime, with the sonorous signature of a scooter and the engagement of a car, half as big. Nobody takes care of it when you drive, nobody looks with fingers or shows it ideal to have a little selfish fun without being redirected in your own way. In this respect, it appeals to my most hedonal and cheekiest needs, similar to a specially built sports car.
