Fifth generation Pirelli P Zero tires put to the test

Only a few names in the tire world have the same weight as P Zero. Pirelli’s flagship area has developed in four decades and became a standard selection for Supercar manufacturers and motorsport series. In the fifth generation, the P Zero family enters a new chapter that aims to redefine the boundaries between road performance, performance and electrical efficiency. In order to explore the breadth of this new offer, GTSpirit traveled to Monza to get a complete technical window and a dynamic driving program.

The new line-up comprises the P-Zero e for electric vehicles, the P Zero R as a versatile ultrahoh-performance street tire and the trofeo RS-a half-sleep, street legals tires. Each was developed with the help of Pirellis progressive virtual modeling systems and tested with OEMs on optimal facilities. Sustainability has played a central role in all three: Over 55% of the P-Zero E are produced using biological and recycled materials, a benchmark in its category.

Our test began with the P Zero e on Polestar 2. The silent and foreseeable handling features of the tire were obvious on Monza’s access roads. Its low rolling resistance improves efficiency without affecting the handle, and driving comfort was remarkable. We then tried the electrical P Zero on the Lamborghini Urus SE during a street from Monza to Lake Como. The plug-in hybrid super-SUV showed a confident high-speed control and steering reaction, which was further validated by the adaptive load management of the tire. Our arrival in Como had met with a trip with the Pirelli Speak Boat, an allusion to the wider lifestyle efforts of the brand.

Next came the BMW M5 with the P Zero R, which was developed for the latest generation of performance salons and GTS. The R combines daily comfort with sharp dynamics. Despite its weight and size, the M5 danced around the test track with remarkable balance. The brake zones felt shortened, the steering reaction was immediately and the tires remained together under lateral stress. In short, it is a tire that flatters the driver and increases the car. It is no secret that the M5 has increased some weight. Monza with its high -speed corners would be a real test for the P Zero RS, but they were remarkably good.

Finally we moved to Autodromo di Monza with the Porsche 911 GT3 RS. Equipped with the new P Zero Trofeo RS, the car delivered round after round of the relentless precision. The tires heated up quickly and kept a consistent handle even with repeated hard use. The Trofeo RS was developed for route lovers who drive their cars on the race track and bridges the gap between street tires and full slicks. With an optimized profile pattern and the composed tech, which were sanded on cars such as the Pagani Utopia and Ferrari 296 GTB, the tire never felt unbalanced even at Monza. It was astonishing to feel how the car and tires were predictable, so that I could immediately push with full confidence. The predictability and trust to the fastest circuit of the Formula -1 calendar left a permanent impression.

In its fifth generation, the P Zero area fits itself to the changing landscape of mobility of the delivery of electrical torque to hybrid versatility and the extremes of the day. Based on our time behind the wheel, the message is clear: Pirelli not only developed the P Zero; You have redefined what it means to be the reference tire over several segments.
