The third time is the charm, as you say – and this time it is absolutely for our third visit to the notorious fat ice race in Zell am See. Three years ago, during our first visit, the entire event had to be canceled due to warm weather. Fortunately, a group of enthusiasts formed the “Plan B” team, which continues to gather and share their passion for motorsport. In our second visit in 2024 the event took place, but again rising temperatures converted the race into more a tryride for rallycross and rally cars that are brave enough to tackle the slush.
Fast lead this year, and everything finally came together perfectly. Our trip began with a familiar partnership with Audi Hungary, which means that we stylishly arrived in an RS6 performance – the perfect winter warrior. With earlier experiences with the event and its surroundings, we had a good idea of what to expect, but this year it was still possible to exceed all of our expectations. When we arrived a day earlier, we gave ourselves time to get in touch with contents, media representatives and guests, many of which came in their own breathtaking cars. A spontaneous photo shoot at the cars and coffee meetings by Apollo Racing led to a surprising encounter with a designer who is responsible for the RS6 in which we drove!
The event itself emerged for its diverse occupation of participants. From Audi’s Q6 e-tron concept from Audi to Polestars trio from rally-inspired cars, there was something for every enthusiast. Legends like Jeff Zwart, Andreas Preuninger, Alois Ruf and Walter Röhrl were discovered in the crowd, which contributed to the prestige of the event. GP Elite presented the classic rally Subarus, including group A Imprezas and an S5 WRC, and ensured an epic relapse into the rally history.
Thanks to almost perfect conditions, the skijöring competition with Michaels Baja Bug and the 959 Evo performed the show. The Flying Bulls P-51 Mustang rose several times above the event location and provided a breathtaking air training section and a soundtrack.
Congratulations to Ferdi and the entire organization team to lose an event that will remember for years. We look forward to becoming fat together next year!
